Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of autologous chondrocyte implantation for osteochondral defects of the talus: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Studies have reported various effects of autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) on osteochondral defects of the talus. Therefore, to assess the effectiveness of ACI for osteochondral defects of the talus, we used the meta-analytic approach. ⋯ This study revealed that the use of ACI could provide a relatively high success rate and improve the AOFAS score for patients with osteochondral defects of the talus, which should be recommended in clinical practice.

Review Meta AnalysisRisk factors for non-specific low back pain in older people: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
To conduct a systematic review about risk factors associated with non-specific low back pain (LBP) in older people. ⋯ Depressive symptoms are a risk factor for LBP in older people. Due to the limitations of the literature, the role of some risk factors remains unclear. An additional high-quality prospective cohort is needed to better elucidate these relationships.

Meta AnalysisTime for return to sport following total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis.
The frequency of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is increasing, particularly in younger and more active patients. In these patients, there may be greater functional demands, with an expectation to return to sporting activities (RTS) following TKA. There is a paucity of data on the time to RTS following TKA and the aim of this meta-analysis is to determine the time to RTS following TKA. ⋯ Patients undergoing TKA were found to successfully RTS, pooled proportion analysis showed an increasing rate of RTS with time, at a mean of 14 months following TKA, where 87.9% of patients had returned to sports. The findings of this study will enable more informed discussions and rehabilitation planning between patients and clinicians on RTS following TKA.

Review Meta AnalysisShort-term outcomes vary by surgical approach in total hip arthroplasty: a network meta-analysis.
The direct anterior approach (DAA) has increased in popularity in recent years. Proponents cite its muscle-sparing approach and purported reduction in pain and improvement in function when compared to the traditional surgical approaches. There remains controversy surrounding the validity of these claims. The objective of this study was to compare the common total hip surgical approaches in terms of pain scores, functional outcomes, opioid use and complications within the first 12 weeks postoperatively. ⋯ The DAA led to functional improvements at 6 weeks compared to the posterior and direct lateral approaches and reduced postoperative pain compared to the direct lateral approach. However, these improvements failed to reach clinical significance. All major surgical approaches led to large improvements in function by 12 weeks with relatively low complication rates. Whether a short-term statistically significant improvement in function is sufficiently patient important to recommend DAA as a standard remains uncertain.

Review Meta AnalysisAnatomical and reverse megaprosthesis in proximal humerus reconstructions after oncologic resections: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Anatomic (AN) Endoprosthesis (EPR) reconstructions of the shoulder after intra-articular proximal humerus (Malawer type 1) resections are characterized by early recovery and low complications rate. However, shoulder instability and limited mobility can occur. Reverse shoulder (RS) EPR has been introduced to improve functional outcome. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate shoulder reconstructions with AN or RS EPR after Malawer type 1 resection, comparing complications and functional results. ⋯ Anatomic and reverse shoulder EPR represent safe and effective implants for shoulder reconstruction, with similar implant stability and complication rates. RS EPR significantly improves post-operative ROM and functional outcomes, especially when at least a partial function of the abductor apparatus is preserved.
