Multicenter StudyImpact of concomitant injuries on outcomes after traumatic brain injury.
Patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) frequently have concomitant injuries; we aimed to investigate their impact on outcomes. ⋯ Concomitant injuries have a significant effect upon the mortality of patients with moderate TBI. They do not affect the mortality in patients with severe TBI.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyClinical assessment of a CMC/PEO gel to inhibit postoperative epidural adhesion formation after lumbar discectomy: a randomized, control study.
To evaluate effectiveness of carboxymethylcellulose/polyethylene oxide (CMC/PEO) gel in improving clinical outcomes after the first-time lumbar discectomy. ⋯ The results demonstrated that CMC/PEO gel is effective in reducing posterior dural adhesions in the spine with no apparent safety issues. It can improve patients' postoperative clinical outcome.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyOperative vs conservative treatment of traumatic patellar dislocation: results of a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.
Patellar dislocation is a common knee injury with mainly lateral dislocations, leading to ruptures of the medial patellofemoral ligament in most of the cases. Even though several prognostic factors for patellofemoral instability have been identified so far, the appropriate therapy for patients with patellar dislocation remains a controversial issue. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcome after conservative or operative treatment in patients after first-time patellar dislocation. ⋯ Our multicentric prospective randomized controlled trial revealed no significant difference between conservative and operative treatment for patients after first-time traumatic patellar dislocation. However, a tendency towards a better Kujala score and lower redislocation rates for patients with operative treatment was observed. The small number of patients is a limiting factor of the study, leading to results without statistical significance. A meta-analysis including other study's level I data is desirable for the future.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialA multicentre case series of tibia fractures treated with the Expert Tibia Nail (ETN).
The aim of this study was to present clinical experience and outcomes of intramedullary nailing of proximal, midshaft and distal tibia fractures with the Expert Tibia Nail (ETN; Synthes GmbH, Switzerland), an implant offering a wide range of proximal and distal locking options in multiple planes to increase stability of the implant and bone construct. ⋯ Intramedullary ETN fixation of tibia fractures results in low rates of delayed union, primary and secondary malalignment, implant-related complications, and secondary surgery. Fibula plating had a negative effect on the healing of the tibia.

Multicenter StudyPredictors of functional outcome following femoral neck fractures treated with an arthroplasty: limitations of the Harris hip score.
To study the association between potential prognostic factors and functional outcome at 1 and 5 year follow-up in patients with femoral neck fractures treated with an arthroplasty. To analyze the reliability of the Harris hip score (HHS). ⋯ After using the HHS in a modification, age and the existence of pre-operative co-morbidities appeared to be predictors of the functional outcome after 1 and 5 years. The HHS, omitting pain, is a more reliable score to estimate the functional outcome, than HHS analyzing pain and function in one scoring system.
