Effect of SOHAM meditation on human brain: a voxel-based morphometry study.
The anatomical correlates of long-term meditators involved in practice of "SOHAM" meditation have been studied using voxel-based morphometry (VBM). The VBM analysis indicates significantly higher gray matter density in brain stem, ventral pallidum, and supplementary motor area in the meditators as compared with age-matched nonmeditators. The observed changes in brain structure are compared with other forms of meditation.

Validation of FDG uptake in the arterial wall as an imaging biomarker of atherosclerotic plaques with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT).
From the literature, the prevalence of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in large artery atherosclerotic plaques shows great heterogeneity. We retrospectively reviewed 100 consecutive patients who underwent FDG-positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging of their whole body, to evaluate FDG uptake in the arterial wall. ⋯ The prevalence of PET uptake in arterial walls in a consecutive population of asymptomatic patients is low and usually confined to one type of artery, and its clinical relevance in terms of vulnerability to ischemic events remains to be determined.

Hyperargininemia (HA) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder and the neuroimaging features of this disease have seldom been reported. Hyperammonemic encephalopathy is uncommon in HA, and the clinical presentation of HA is distinct from other urea cycle disorders. This paper describes the brain MRI findings and a magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) study of a series of Brazilian HA patients. ⋯ We present the MRI and MRS findings of a large series of HA patients. Variable degrees of brain atrophy and mild cerebellar atrophy were observed, and these findings were not specific. No metabolic abnormality was observed using MRS in this series of patients.

Brain metastases from prostate cancer are uncommon and their imaging appearance has not been well defined. The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the incidence, MRI characteristics, and prognosis of parenchymal brain metastases originating in prostate cancer. ⋯ Brain metastasis from prostate cancer remains a rare phenomenon that most frequently occurs in the setting of widely disseminated bone and soft tissue disease. Patients with nonadenocarcinoma pathology are more likely to develop brain metastases. The MRI appearance is highly variable and prognosis is poor.

Sinonasal organized hematoma (SOH) is an uncommon benign entity with locally aggressive behavior. The conventional approach is complete resection. ⋯ This case suggests that the possibility of an aneurysm should always be considered if a SOH is suspected, especially when it is huge and close to the ICA. Surgical resection may not be the first therapeutic choice unless the differential cause of a hidden aneurysm can be excluded.
