The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of using 3-dimensional (3D) ultra-short echo time (UTE) radial imaging method for measurement of the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to gadolinium-based contrast agent. In this study, we propose to use the golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP) method with 3D center-out trajectories for UTE, hence named as 3D UTE-GRASP. We first examined the feasibility of using 3D UTE-GRASP dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for differentiating subtle BBB disruptions induced by focused ultrasound (FUS). Then, we examined the BBB permeability changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology using Alzheimer's disease transgenic mice (5xFAD) at different ages. ⋯ The results in this study substantiate the feasibility of using the proposed 3D UTE-GRASP method for detecting subtle BBB permeability changes expected in neurodegenerative diseases, such as AD.

Very preterm infants (VPIs, <32 weeks gestational age at birth) are prone to long-term neurological deficits. While the effects of birth weight and postnatal growth on VPIs' neurological outcome are well established, the neurobiological mechanism behind these associations remains elusive. In this study, we utilized diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to characterize how birth weight and postnatal weight gain influence VPIs' white matter (WM) maturation. ⋯ In VPIs, birth weight and post-natal weight gain are associated with markers of brain WM maturation, particularly in the corpus callosum, which can be captured on discharge MRI. These neuroimaging metrics can serve as potential biomarkers for the early effects of nutritional interventions on VPIs' brain development.

Transcranial ultrasonography to detect intracranial pathology: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Transcranial ultrasonography (TCU) can be a useful diagnostic tool in evaluating intracranial pathology in patients with limited or delayed access to routine neuroimaging in critical care or austere settings. We reviewed available literature investigating the diagnostic utility of TCU for detecting pediatric and adult patient's intracranial pathology in patients with intact skulls and reported diagnostic accuracy measures. ⋯ TCU has a reasonable sensitivity and specificity for detecting intracranial pathology involving ICH and tumors with clinical applications in remote locations or where standard imaging is unavailable. Future studies should investigate ultrasound parameters to enhance diagnostic accuracy in diagnosing intracranial pathology.

Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) has been reported in up to 50% of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with a large vessel occlusion (LVO) treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). HT may be driven by postrecanalization hyperperfusion injury and is independently associated with worse functional outcomes. Strategies to identify patients at risk for HT may assist in developing preventive therapies. ⋯ TCD can identify patients at risk of HT following successful EVT. TCD could serve as an inexpensive ancillary test to guide participant selection for clinical trials targeting postprocedural reperfusion injury.

A meta-analysis of the role of diffusion tensor imaging in cervical spinal cord compression.
At present, the role of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) remains controversial. This study aimed to confirm the role of DTI by comparing the differences in fractional anisotropy (FA) values between patients with cervical spinal cord compression (CSCC) and healthy individuals. ⋯ Our results show that FA values in the spinal cord decline in patients with CSCC, thus confirming the crucial role of DTI in CSCC.
