The Effect of Three Times a Week Glatiramer Acetate on Cerebral T1 Hypointense Lesions in Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
Two definitions of T1 hypointense (T1H) lesions can be derived from pre-contrast images: those that may or may not have a corresponding gadolinium-enhancing correlate on post-contrast images (T1H total), and those that are simultaneously non-gadolinium-enhancing on post-contrast scans (T1H non-enhancing). To determine the differences in lesion evolution between these two T1H definitions, we examined the effect of glatiramer acetate 40 mg/mL three times weekly subcutaneous injection (GA40) on the number of new or enlarging T1H total and T1H non-enhancing lesions in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). ⋯ GA40 significantly reduced the number of new or enlarging T1H total lesions and T1H non-enhancing lesions compared with placebo. Although the treatment effect magnitude was comparable with both definitions, the use of T1H non-enhancing lesions may be more relevant for more uniform standardization in future clinical trials.

Hypophosphatemia is Associated with the Serial Administration of Triple-Dose Gadolinium to Patients for Brain MRI.
The purpose of this study is to report a metabolic abnormality associated with frequent, triple-dose Gadolinium (TdGd) use in MS patients during BECOME trial. ⋯ Serial TdGd in MS patients, unrelated to immunomodulatory treatment, was associated with increased frequency of hypophosphatemia that progressed with cumulative triple-dose and markedly decreased in second year, with less frequent triple-dose administration.

Relationship between Two Types of Coil Packing Densities Relative to Aneurysm Size.
Coil packing density (PD) can be calculated via a formula (PDF ) or software (PDS ). Two types of PD can be different from each other for same aneurysm. This study aimed to evaluate the interobserver agreement and relationships between the 2 types of PD relative to aneurysm size. ⋯ Interobserver agreement for PDF and PDS was excellent. However, PDF was overestimated in smaller aneurysms and converged to PDS as aneurysm size increased.

Derivation and evaluation of thresholds for core and tissue at risk of infarction using CT perfusion.
Computed tomography perfusion provides information on tissue viability according to proposed thresholds. We evaluated thresholds for ischemic core and tissue at risk and subsequently tested their accuracy in independent datasets. ⋯ Time-based perfusion thresholds perform well as predictors of tissue at risk of infarction with DT the best predictor. Relative CBF was the best predictor of ischemic core. Evaluation in larger populations is needed to confirm the performance of tissue viability thresholds.

Validation of FDG uptake in the arterial wall as an imaging biomarker of atherosclerotic plaques with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT).
From the literature, the prevalence of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in large artery atherosclerotic plaques shows great heterogeneity. We retrospectively reviewed 100 consecutive patients who underwent FDG-positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging of their whole body, to evaluate FDG uptake in the arterial wall. ⋯ The prevalence of PET uptake in arterial walls in a consecutive population of asymptomatic patients is low and usually confined to one type of artery, and its clinical relevance in terms of vulnerability to ischemic events remains to be determined.
