Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of different anesthetic techniques on serum leptin, C-reactive protein, and cortisol concentrations in anorectal surgery.
To compare the effects of intratracheal general anesthesia (ITGA) and regional (saddle block) anesthesia on leptin, C-reactive protein (CRP), and cortisol blood concentrations during anorectal surgery. ⋯ Saddle block, a regional anesthetic technique, may attenuate stress response in patients undergoing anorectal surgery, by blocking afferent neural input during early postoperative period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialLevosimendan as a new strategy during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting: double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial.
To determine if levosimendan could improve cardiac performance during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with normal preoperative left ventricular function. ⋯ Administration of 12 microg/kg of levosimendan enhances the left ventricular performance and offers a promising therapeutic option during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with good preoperative left ventricular function.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialUsefulness of aspirin therapy in high-risk pregnant women with abnormal uterine artery Doppler ultrasound at 14-16 weeks pregnancy: randomized controlled clinical trial.
To assess the effectiveness of low-dose aspirin in the prevention of preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) in high-risk pregnant women with abnormal findings at uterine artery Doppler velocimetry performed at 14-16 weeks. ⋯ Low-dose aspirin administered as early as 14-16 weeks of gestation to pregnant women at high risk of preeclampsia with abnormal uterine Doppler findings may reduce or modify the course of severe preeclampsia. Its effects on the prevention of IUGR need further evaluation.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialCroatian implementation of a computer-based teaching program from the University of Kansas, USA.
To determine whether the students enrolled in the computer-based teaching program would take the final examination in pathology earlier than those who studied according to the previous traditional program. ⋯ The computer-based program introduced at the Zagreb University School of Medicine in 1998 had a positive effect on medical students, as evidenced by the fact that more students chose to take the final pathology examination in the first term and more of them passed the examination in the first attempt than those in the traditional teaching program.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialMetoclopramide improves gastric but not gallbladder emptying in cardiac surgery patients with early intragastric enteral feeding: randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the effect of metoclopramide on gastric emptying in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery patients with early enteral nutrition and to evaluate the effect of metoclopramide on motility of the gallbladder in these patients. ⋯ In CABG surgery patients with early enteral feeding, a single dose of intravenous metoclopramide effectively improves gastric emptying, but does not have any prokinetic effect on gallbladder motility.
