Randomized Controlled TrialEffectiveness of the oxygen reserve index in detecting and preventing hyperoxia in critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation: a randomized controlled trial.
To assess the effectiveness of fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) titration guided by oxygen reserve index (ORi) in preventing hyperoxia in intensive care unit (ICU) patients receiving mechanical ventilator support. ⋯ FiO2 titration guided by ORi+SpO2 effectively prevents hyperoxia and reduces the exposure time to hyperoxia in critically ill patients.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of an intravenous lidocaine bolus before tracheal extubation on recovery after breast surgery - Lidocaine at the End (LATE) study: a randomized controlled clinical trial.
To investigate whether IV lidocaine improves emergence, early recovery, and late recovery after general anesthesia in women who undergo breast surgery. ⋯ In women who underwent breast surgery, IV lidocaine bolus administered just before extubation attenuated bucking, cough and sore throat, and PONV for 24 hours after general anesthesia, without prolonging the emergence.

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of continuous aspiration of subglottic secretions in prevention of microaspiration during general anesthesia: a randomized controlled pilot study.
To assess the difference between endotracheal tubes (ETT) with continuous suction of subglottic secretions (CASS) and standard ETT in preventing secretions movement from the pharynx into the trachea, past the inflated cuff during general anesthesia. ⋯ Compared with standard ETT, ETT with CASS efficiently removed secretions during general anesthesia, prevented secretions from migrating past the inflated cuff, and significantly reduced the amount of secretions that reached the distal airways on tracheal extubation.

Randomized Controlled TrialIntermittent tramadol vs tramadol administration via patient-controlled pump after lumbar discectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the effect of intermittent tramadol dosing vs tramadol administration via patient-controlled pump on pain after lumbar discectomy. ⋯ This is the first study that used the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire to compare the effect of tramadol administration via PCA pump and intermittent administration on pain after LIV-LV discectomy in a neurosurgery department. Tramadol showed a good analgesic efficacy in lumbar spine surgery; tramadol via PCA controlled pain more effectively than intermittently administered tramadol.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of recovery after sugammadex or neostigmine reversal of rocuronium in geriatric patients undergoing spine surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the effect of sugammadex compared with neostigmine on speed and quality of recovery after rocuronium neuromuscular blockade (NMB) in geriatric patients undergoing posterior lumbar spine surgery. ⋯ Sugammadex reversal significantly hastened NMB recovery compared with neostigmine reversal in geriatric patients. It significantly decreased operating room time but not PACU time or hospital stay.
