HIPPOCAMPAL GANGLIOSIDE COMPOSITION IS ALTERED BY METFORMIN AND LIRAGLUTIDE TREATMENT IN A HIGH-FAT HIGH-SUGAR DIET RAT MODEL.
Insulin resistance has many deleterious effects on the central nervous system, including the initiation and potentiation of neurodegeneration. While the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease has been extensively researched with many insights into the effects of amyloids and neurofibrillary tangles, the connection between the two pathogenic entities has not yet been fully elucidated. Gangliosides are commonly found in neuronal membranes and myelin, specifically in lipid rafts that have been linked to pathological amyloidogenesis. ⋯ Positive immunoreactivity for GM1 was observed in the male group treated with liraglutide in regions where it is not physiologically found. The changes observed following HFHSD and liraglutide treatment were suggestive of ganglioside restructuring that might have implications on pathological amyloidogenesis. Metformin treatment did not significantly alter the hippocampal ganglioside composition in either sex.

Multicenter StudyOUTCOMES OF SURGICAL TREATMENT FOR DISPLACED BOTH-COLUMN ACETABULAR FRACTURES.
Complex both-column acetabulum fractures are severe injuries, often with associated injuries and complications with uncertain clinical and functional outcome. Modern traumatological protocols point to early surgical treatment, with anatomical reduction and stable internal fixation of fragments as a prerequisite for achieving a good treatment outcome. This retrospective-prospective multicenter cohort study was conducted during the 2014-2020 period and included 24 cases that met the input parameters, using the Letournel and Judet classification, and application of a combined surgical approach, a modified Stoppa and Kocher-Langenbeck approach. ⋯ The mean HHS was 84 (range 34-98). Complications and results have led us to a conclusion that primary injuries significantly affect the clinical and functional results. A good diagnostic procedure, assessment of the general condition and application of the trauma scoring system, surgical treatment that includes early hip reduction, open reduction internal fixation and physical rehabilitation are necessary.

Vitamin D is involved in many different functions in the human body. Despite the well-known benefits of vitamin D and increasing trends of testing and supplementation, there is still a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency worldwide, present in the general but also in the highly-active population such as athletes and dancers. Dancers are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency due to their long working hours spent indoors, without exposure to sunlight. ⋯ Medline, Scopus, SportDiscus and Web of Science were searched to identify the available peer-reviewed articles. Five articles met the inclusion criteria (two interventional and three observational studies), three of which additionally investigated the relationship between vitamin D and muscle function. The reported results on positive influence of vitamin D serum level or vitamin D supplementation effect on reduced injury occurrence and enhanced muscular function in adolescent and elite professional ballet dancers are promising but the evidence is limited due to a low number of studies, small samples, and methodological limitations.

VALIDATION OF THE CROATIAN VERSION OF THE SURGICAL FEAR QUESTIONNAIRE (SFQ) IN ADULT PATIENTS WAITING FOR ELECTIVE SURGERY.
The Surgical Fear Questionnaire (SFQ) is an instrument for self-assessment of surgical fear and consists of two subscales, one assessing the fear of short-term consequences (SFQ-s) and another one of long-term consequences (SFQ-l) of surgery. The aim of this study was to test the Croatian version of the SFQ with regard to its psychometric properties. This prospective cohort study included patients who presented to the Department of Surgery for elective surgery in the inpatient setting at a tertiary health care facility in Croatia between April 1 and May 31, 2019. ⋯ Significant correlations of the SFQ with the NRS and HADS-anxiety subscale were demonstrated. Our study demonstrated the Croatian version of the SFQ to have a high level of reliability and hence can be used as a self-report instrument for surgical fear with two subscales. Convergent validity of the SFQ with other self-report instruments is shown.

DO THE GUIDELINES GUIDE THE BELGRADE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE PHYSICIANS THROUGH THE MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE ST-ELEVATION MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION?
The aim of the study was to assess whether current guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in daily clinical practice are adequately applied in the Belgrade Emergency Medical Service (EMS). A retrospective research included 2,982 STEMI patients who were cared for by EMS teams. Therapy consisting of morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin and aspirin (MONA) was applied. ⋯ A rapid increase in the use of dual antiaggregation therapy (MONA and clopidogrel or MONA and ticagrelor) was reported from year to year, as well as a dramatic increase in the use of ticagrelor compared to clopidogrel. The time from receiving the call to the arrival on the scene was 13.72 minutes, and the time from receiving the call to hospital arrival was 52.83 minutes. Our physicians care for STEMI patients in accordance with the current international and local recommendations.
