Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and safety of levocetirizine in improving symptoms and health-related quality of life in US adults with seasonal allergic rhinitis: a randomized, placebo-controlled study.
Levocetirizine, a second-generation antihistamine for symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria, has not been previously studied in US patients. ⋯ Levocetirizine was well tolerated and was significantly more effective than placebo in improving the naso-ocular symptoms and health-related quality of life in US patients with SAR.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized, placebo-controlled study of intravenous montelukast in children with acute asthma.
Up to 30% of patients require hospitalization for acute asthma despite standard therapy in the emergency department. In adults, intravenous montelukast added to standard therapy significantly improved forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and reduced hospital admissions compared with standard therapy alone. ⋯ In this study of children with acute asthma, intravenous montelukast was not significantly better than placebo in improving FEV1, symptoms, or overall hospital course.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and tolerability of once-daily budesonide/formoterol pressurized metered-dose inhaler in adults and adolescents with asthma previously stable with twice-daily budesonide/ formoterol dosing.
The goal of asthma therapy is to control symptoms using minimal pharmacologic intervention. ⋯ Pulmonary function and asthma control were more effectively maintained with all budesonide/formoterol regimens vs once-daily budesonide and with twice-daily budesonide/formoterol at twice the daily formoterol dose vs both once-daily budesonide/formoterol doses.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of the anti-inflammatory effects of extra-fine hydrofluoroalkane-beclomethasone vs fluticasone dry powder inhaler on exhaled inflammatory markers in childhood asthma.
Extra-fine hydrofluoroalkane-beclomethasone differs from other inhaled corticosteroids by its fine aerosol characteristics. Therefore, extra-fine hydrofluoroalkane-beclomethasone may be particularly useful for treating peripheral airway inflammation in asthma. ⋯ The anti-inflammatory effects of hydrofluoroalkane-beclomethasone are similar to those of fluticasone DPI in children with moderate persistent asthma.
