The present meta-regression pools data from reports of long-term follow-up (>2 years) to assess durability of the efficacy associated with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. ⋯ Pooling data from multiple studies meta-analytically revealed that weight loss after RYGB is maintained over the long-term. Further investigation would be necessary to ascertain similar durability in comorbidity reduction after RYGB surgery.

Effects of allogeneic red blood cell transfusions on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To determine the effect of allogeneic blood transfusion (ABT) on clinical outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer undergoing surgery. ⋯ In patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) undergoing surgery, ABTs are associated with adverse clinical outcomes, including increased mortality. Measures aimed at limiting the use of ABTs should be investigated further.

Meta Analysis
Safe and early discharge after colorectal surgery due to C-reactive protein: a diagnostic meta-analysis of 1832 patients.
To assess the predictive value of C-reactive protein (CRP) level for postoperative infectious complications after colorectal surgery. ⋯ This diagnostic meta-analysis of 1832 patients--the first in the literature--provides compelling evidence that C-reactive protein on postoperative day 4 has a high negative predictive value for infectious complications of 89%. Therefore, CRP measurement allows safe and early discharge of selected patients after colorectal surgery.
