The objectives of this study were to determine the association between recurrent trauma admissions (recidivism) and subsequent long-term mortality, and to identify those in most need for preventive interventions. ⋯ Male sex, Black race, and elevated blood alcohol content and penetrating injury are associated with trauma recidivism which leads to a higher risk of death. There is a critical public health need to develop interventions to reduce trauma recidivism and preventable death.

To evaluate the association between multiple complications and postoperative outcomes and to assess which complications occur together in patients with multiple complications. ⋯ Almost half (40%) of patients with complications suffer multiple complications. Patient factors such as frailty and comorbidity strongly predict the development of multiple complications. The results of our Bayesian analysis identify targets for interventions aimed at disrupting the cascade of multiple complications in high-risk patients.

To determine the rate and extent of translation of innovative surgical devices from the laboratory to first-in-human studies, and to evaluate the factors influencing such translation. ⋯ These findings support initiatives to increase clinical translation through improved interactions between basic, translational, and clinical researchers.

To improve patient selection for cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) by evaluating various preoperatively assessable clinicopathological parameters as markers for survival after CRS and HIPEC. ⋯ Current clinical practice, which selects patients based on extraperitoneal metastasis, lymph node stage, performance status, and tumor histology, is validated by our pooled analysis. Our data merit further research into neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the setting of CRS and HIPEC for PMs.
