Microsatellite Instability and Programmed Cell Death-Ligand 1 Expression in Stage II/III Gastric Cancer: Post Hoc Analysis of the CLASSIC Randomized Controlled study.
We investigated microsatellite instability (MSI) status and programed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression as predictors of prognosis and responsiveness to chemotherapy for stage II/III gastric cancer. ⋯ MSI status and PD-L1 expression are clinically actionable biomarkers for stratifying patients and predicting benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy after D2 gastrectomy for stage II/III gastric cancer.

To determine if there are differences in overall survival (OS) or event-free survival (EFS) in patients with and without concomitant extra-adrenal metastases undergoing adrenal metastasectomy. ⋯ In selected patients undergoing adrenal metastasectomy, there were no significant differences in OS or EFS between patients with and without concomitant extra-adrenal metastases.

Prognostic Impact of Breast-Conserving Therapy Versus Mastectomy of BRCA1/2 Mutation Carriers Compared With Noncarriers in a Consecutive Series of Young Breast Cancer Patients.
To investigate the effects of different types of surgery on breast cancer prognosis in germline BRCA1/BRCA2 mutation carriers compared with noncarriers. ⋯ Our results, together with the available literature, provide reassurance that breast-conserving therapy is a safe local treatment option to offer to BRCA1 mutation carriers with invasive breast cancer.

The aim of the study was to identify and evaluate scholarship in multi-institutional interventional surgical education trials. ⋯ Multi-institutional surgical education studies do not uniformly incorporate characteristics of high quality research, particularly related to study design, measurable outcomes, and assessment tools used. Coordinated support, including grant funding, that addresses the challenging nature of multi-institutional surgical education research may improve the quality of these studies.

To evaluate short-term outcomes of laparoscopic colectomy for selected consecutive patients in an ambulatory setting at two institutions. ⋯ This is the first case of consecutive patients undergoing ambulatory colectomy for malignant or benign disease. We demonstrated the feasibility, safety, and reproducibility of outpatient colectomy for selected patients. In our experience, 30% of patients scheduled for elective colectomy can be managed in an ambulatory setting.
