Patient Behaviors and Characteristics Related to Weight Regain After Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.
To identify patient behaviors and characteristics related to weight regain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB). ⋯ Several behaviors and characteristics associated with greater weight regain were identified, which inform integrated healthcare approaches to patient care and identify high-risk patients to improve long-term weight loss maintenance after RYGB.

Females Are More Resistant to Ischemia-Reperfusion-induced Intestinal Injury Than Males: A Human Study.
Sex differences in responses to intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) have been recognized in animal studies. We aimed to investigate sexual dimorphism in human small intestinal mucosal responses to IR. ⋯ The human female small intestine seems less susceptible to IR-induced tissue injury than the male small intestine. Recognition of such differences could lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to reduce IR-associated morbidity and mortality.

Opioids After Surgery in the United States Versus the Rest of the World: The International Patterns of Opioid Prescribing (iPOP) Multicenter Study.
The International Patterns of Opioid Prescribing study compares postoperative opioid prescribing patterns in the United States (US) versus the rest of the world. ⋯ US physicians prescribe alarmingly high amounts of opioid medications postoperatively. Further efforts should focus on limiting opioid prescribing and emphasize non-opioid alternatives in the US.

Histopathologic Predictors of Survival and Recurrence in Resected Ampullary Adenocarcinoma: International Multicenter Cohort Study.
The aim of the study was to define histopathologic characteristics that independently predict overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS), in patients who underwent resection of an ampullary adenocarcinoma with curative intent. ⋯ Independent predictors of OS in resected ampullary cancer were N-stage, perineural invasion, and adjuvant chemotherapy. N-stage was the only predictor of DFS. These findings improve predicting survival and recurrence after resection of ampullary adenocarcinoma.

To describe variability in and consequences of opioid prescriptions following pediatric laparoscopic appendectomy. ⋯ There was substantial variation in opioid prescribing patterns. Opioid prescription duration increased risk of ED visits for constipation, but not for pain or refill.
