To compare rates of surgical site infection between the 2 most commonly utilized narrow-spectrum antibiotic regimens in children with uncomplicated appendicitis (ceftriaxone with metronidazole and cefoxitin alone). ⋯ Ceftriaxone combined with metronidazole is superior to cefoxitin alone in preventing SSIs in children with uncomplicated appendicitis.

Determine the proportion and characteristics of traumatic injury survivors who perceive a negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their recovery and to define post-injury outcomes for this cohort. ⋯ The COVID-19 pandemic is negatively impacting the recovery of trauma survivors. It is essential that we recognize the impact of the pandemic on injured patients while focusing on directed efforts to improve the long-term outcomes of this already at-risk population.

Influence of the Retrocolic Versus Antecolic Route for Alimentary Tract Reconstruction on Delayed Gastric Emptying After Pancreatoduodenectomy: A Multicenter, Noninferiority Randomized Controlled Trial.
This study aimed to determine whether retrocolic alimentary tract reconstruction is noninferior to antecolic reconstruction in terms of DGE incidence after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and investigated patients' postoperative nutritional status. ⋯ This trial could not demonstrate the noninferiority of retrocolic to antecolic alimentary tract reconstruction in terms of DGE incidence. The alimentary tract should not be reconstructed via the retrocolic route after PD, to prevent DGE.

Multi-institutional Development and External Validation of a Nomogram to Predict Recurrence After Curative Resection of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors.
To develop a nomogram estimating the probability of recurrence free at 5 years after resection for localized grade 1 (G1)/ grade 2 (G2) pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs). ⋯ Our externally validated nomogram predicts the probability of recurrence-free survival at 5 years after PanNETs curative resection, with improved accuracy over current staging systems. Estimating individual recurrence risk will guide the development of personalized surveillance programs after surgery.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic On Emergency Adult Surgical Patients and Surgical Services: An International Multi-Center Cohort Study and Department Survey.
The PREDICT study aimed to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected surgical services and surgical patients and to identify predictors of outcomes in this cohort. ⋯ The first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted surgical patients, both directly through co-morbid infection and indirectly as shown by increasing mortality in peak months, irrespective of COVID-19 status.Higher CFS scores and ASA grades strongly predict outcomes in surgical patients and are an important risk assessment tool during the pandemic.
