Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Long-term oncologic outcomes of laparoscopic versus open surgery for rectal cancer: a pooled analysis of 3 randomized controlled trials.
To compare long-term oncologic outcomes between laparoscopic and open surgery for rectal cancer and to identify independent predictors of survival. ⋯ This pooled analysis with a follow-up of more than 10 years confirms the long-term oncologic safety of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Antecolic versus retrocolic route of the gastroenteric anastomosis after pancreatoduodenectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
To investigate the relationship between the route of gastroenteric (GE) reconstruction after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and the postoperative incidence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE). ⋯ The route of GE reconstruction after PD does not influence the postoperative incidence of DGE or other complications. The etiology and treatment of DGE, which occurs frequently after both procedures, need further investigation. The GE reconstruction after PD should be routed according to the surgeon's preference.

To systematically determine the imaging findings for distinguishing malignant and benign branch-duct type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (BD-IPMNs), including mixed type, and their diagnostic value through meta-analysis of published studies. ⋯ Presence of mural nodules should be regarded highly suspicious for malignancy warranting a surgical excision whereas cyst size greater than 3 cm, MPD dilatation (5-9 mm), or thick septum/wall may better be managed by careful observation and/or further evaluation.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Effect of simvastatin on physiological and biological outcomes in patients undergoing esophagectomy: a randomized placebo-controlled trial.
To test whether simvastatin improves physiological and biological outcomes in patients undergoing esophagectomy. ⋯ In this proof of concept study, pretreatment with simvastatin in esophagectomy decreased biomarkers of inflammation as well as pulmonary epithelial and systemic endothelial injury.

Multicenter Study
A prospective policy development to increase split-liver transplantation for 2 adult recipients: results of a 12-year multicenter collaborative study.
To analyze in a multicenter study the potential benefit of a new prospective policy development to increase split-liver procedures for 2 adult recipients. ⋯ AASLT should be considered a surgical option for selected smaller-sized adults only in experimental clinical studies in experienced centers.
