Clinical TrialVoxel-based analysis of gray matter and CSF space in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus.
To investigate regional morphologic changes in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) based on diagnosis with INPH Guidelines using voxel-based morphometry. ⋯ In INPH, morphologic change occurs in the frontoparietal high convexity with ventricular dilatations, dilated sylvian fissures and tight sulci in the medial parietal lobes.

Comparative StudyComparison of the usefulness of brain perfusion SPECT and MIBG myocardial scintigraphy for the diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies.
Supportive features in the diagnostic criteria for dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) include occipital hypoperfusion and decreased cardiac uptake of (123)I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG). In this study, we performed both brain perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and MIBG myocardial scintigraphy in the same subjects and evaluated their sensitivity to detect the characteristic features of DLB. ⋯ MIBG myocardial scintigraphy was superior to brain perfusion SPECT in detecting a characteristic feature of DLB. Our results suggest that combining SPECT and MIBG scintigraphy could increase the accuracy of clinical diagnosis of DLB.

Neural correlates of the Clock Drawing Test performance in Alzheimer's disease: a FDG-PET study.
This study aimed to identify the functional neuroanatomical correlates of impaired clock drawing test (CDT) performance in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). ⋯ These results provide the first PET evidence that poor CDT performance in patients with AD is closely related to the functional decline in the right hemisphere, especially the right parietal cortex.

ReviewPrediction of institutionalisation in dementia. A systematic review.
In the past decades, a substantial number of studies considered factors influencing institutionalisation of persons with dementia. This study reviews recent work on predictors of actual institutionalisation in dementia. ⋯ The overview of research activities in this area showed a lack of methodological strength in a large part of identified studies. Nevertheless, a lot of well-examined and less highlighted predictors could be identified.

Comparative StudyCohort changes in cognitive function among Danish centenarians. A comparative study of 2 birth cohorts born in 1895 and 1905.
The objective was to examine cohort changes in cognitive function in 2 cohorts of centenarians born 10 years apart. ⋯ The increasing number of centenarians may not entail larger proportions of cognitively impaired individuals in this extreme age group.
