The deep impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on medical students: An online cross sectional study evaluating Turkish students' anxiety.
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) changed the delivery of medical education in Turkey by moving to an emergency remote teaching system and led to many challenges for future doctors. In this study, we aimed to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on medical students, to assess their anxiety level and their main anxiety sources related to this pandemic. ⋯ Our results suggest that anxiety is prevalent amongst Turkish medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic and they have a weak preparedness for a pandemic such as COVID-19. Based on our results, new strategies should be implemented for medical education and for alleviating students' anxiety levels.

Usefulness of Novel Martin/Hopkins and Sampson Equations over Friedewald Equation in Cardiology Outpatients: A CVSCORE-TR Substudy.
The Friedewald equation (LDL-Cf) is known to produce inaccurate estimations of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) when triglycerides are high (>400 mg/dL) or LDL-C is low (<70 mg/dL). The Martin/Hopkins (LDL-Cmh) and Sampson (LDL-Cs) equations were developed to overcome these limitations, but few data are available to assess whether these equations offer incremental usefulness over LDL-Cf. Our aim was to understand whether there was any incremental usefulness of novel equations on decisions regarding patient management. ⋯ In most cardiology outpatients, the Friedewald equation has excellent agreement with the novel Martin/Hopkins and Sampson equations, and treatment decisions should not change in most patients.

Retracted PublicationClinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 pneumonia patients from an intensive care unit in Faisalabad, Pakistan.
To describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of adult patients with severe COVID-19, with the exploration of risk factors for mortality in the hospital. ⋯ The mortality rate is high in critically ill patients with COVID-19. Lower Glasgow Coma Scale, higher body weight and decreased lymphocyte count appear to be potential risk factors for the death of patients with COVID-19 in the ICU.

Meta AnalysisEffect of verbal counseling on metered-dose inhaler use and lung function test among asthmatic patients: A meta-analysis.
The main cause of poor asthma control is mostly related to the inability of the asthmatic subjects to use their metred-dose inhaler (pMDI) correctly. The present study aimed to evaluate the role of contentious pMDI verbal-counselling on the pMDI inhalation technique and pulmonary functions of asthmatics. ⋯ Based on this meta-analysis, Continuous pMDI verbal counselling, at every possible opportunity, is a must since lung functions and pMDI inhalation technique improvements were observed with continuous pMDI verbal counselling.

Meta AnalysisThe efficacy of voxelotor, 900 mg in patients with sickle cell anemia: a meta-analysis of the randomized controlled trials.
Sickle cell anaemia (SCA), an inherited chronic hematological disease affecting hundreds of thousand people worldwide, causes significant morbidity and reduced life expectancy about two or three decades. This study aimed to conduct a meta-analysis of the efficacy of voxelotor, 900 mg in patients with SCA. ⋯ As a conclusion, voxelotor, 900 mg use significantly increased hemoglobin levels which of 1 g/dL elevation predicts a reduced risk of stroke (41%), albuminuria (53%), pulmonary arterial hypertension (57%), and mortality (64%) in recent studies. Voxelotor also reduced markers of hemolysis but failed to reach statistically significance in current evidence. Multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled studies are on the way and will provide more evidence to see the potential of disease-modifying effects of voxelotor.
