Loop nerve graft prefabrication for peripheral nerve defect reconstruction.
Delayed autologous nerve graft reconstruction is inevitable in devastating injuries. Delayed or prolonged repair time has deleterious effects on nerve grafts. We aimed improving and accelerating nerve graft reconstruction process in a rat long nerve defect model with loop nerve graft prefabrication particularly to utilize for injuries with tissue loss. ⋯ Loop nerve graft prefabrication improved axonal regeneration without delay. Loop prefabrication can accelerate prolonged regeneration time for the injuries indicating a delayed nerve reconstruction. Higher axon counts derived with loop nerve prefabrication may even foster its investigation in immediate long nerve defect reconstructions in further studies.

The effect of rutin on experimentally induced acute heart contusion in rats: Biochemical and histopathological evaluation.
Acute cardiac contusion induced by trauma is known with its high mortality and morbidity. The role of oxidative stress and inflammation in its pathophysiology has led to the investigation of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances in non-sur-gical treatment. In this study, the effects of rutin which has these two features on acute cardiac contusion were investigated. ⋯ Rutin had a protective effect on heart tissue.

Hemostatic effects of traditional Inula viscosa and Capsella bursa-pastoris plant mixture extract on rat liver parenchymal bleeding model.
Failure to achieve effective bleeding control and problems related to transfusion in liver surgery are the most common causes of post-operative mortality and morbidity. Various methods/drugs including topical hemostatic agents have been em-ployed for bleeding control in liver surgery. This study was aimed to investigate the hemostatic properties of the herb mixture extract of Inula viscosa and Capsella bursa-pastoris (IvCbp) in rat liver laceration model, which have been traditionally used as antiseptic and hemostatic agents public in Hatay/Tukey. ⋯ IvCbp herb mixture extract group provide effective hemostatic control, caused less Hb decrease and resulted in less inflammation and necrosis compared to Ankaferd and sponge groups in a rat liver resection model.

Case ReportsDelayed presentation of gluteal compartment syndrome presenting with peroneal palsy secondary to superior gluteal artery pseudoaneurysm following ballistic injury.
Gluteal compartment syndrome (CS) secondary to the superior gluteal artery (SGA) injury and pseudoaneurysm formation is a very rare condition. When it does occur, it usually manifests with acute and life-threatening hemorrhage resulting in early hypov-olemic changes. Delayed presentation of the gluteal CS (GCS) after trauma has been described in the literature seldom and these cases were demonstrated with sciatic nerve palsy, hemodynamic instability, decreased hemoglobin levels, increasing buttock pain, and a large gluteal hematoma. ⋯ The patient required emergent angiographic embolization and then fasciotomy which were approx-imately 13 days after the onset of the symptoms. The patient made a positive recovery with no further neurologic deterioration and none local wound or systemic complications. This case emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of this rare condition.

Serum cholecystokinin levels can be a predictive factor for difficult cholecystectomy: Decreased cholecystokinin receptor levels.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is being performed frequently in general surgery practice. Estimation of difficult cholecystectomy is very important to take precautions against complications. Cholecystokinin (CCK) is an important enzyme for gall-bladder motility. CCK receptor is the target for CCK. Fibrosis and emptying problems of gallbladder are related with difficult cholecys-tectomies. We aimed to evaluate the association between plasma CCK and difficult cholecystectomy and try to explain the mechanism. ⋯ CCK is a reliable parameter for determining the difficulty of LC. Decreased CCK receptor levels with fibrosis of gallbladder are the probably responsible mechanism.
