The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of perfusion index (PI) measured by non-invasive pulse oximetry in the evaluation of pediatric trauma patients and to show its correlation with pediatric trauma score (PTS). ⋯ PI can be used for non-invasive and rapid assessment of unstable patients separately or in combination with PTS in pediatric trauma patients.

An investigation of the effect of acrylamide on fracture healing in rats.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of acrylamide (AA) on fracture healing histologically, biochemically, and radiologically in a rat femur fracture model. ⋯ AA adversely affects fracture healing even at low doses, as in the present study. According to the results of this study, the authors recommend a diet poor in acrylamide during fracture treatment. Therefore, further human studies are required to find out the complex effect of AA on bone healing and the body.

Protective effect of osthole on testicular ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.
Testicular torsion is a urological emergency that requires urgent surgical intervention which results in testicular loss if not diagnosed and treated in a timely fashion. Ischemic tissue damage with oxygen deficiency, which starts with the decrease in blood flow to the tissue, continues to increase with the reoxygenation of the damaged tissues as soon as reperfusion is achieved. In various studies, osthole has also been shown to reduce cerebral, spinal cord, intestinal, renal, and myocardial ischemia/perfusion (I/R) damage. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of osthole on testicular I/R injury. ⋯ In our study, we observed that osthole reduced oxidative damage, suppressed the inflammatory process, prevented apoptosis, and reduced cell damage. We think that with repeated doses, cellular damage would gradually decline.

Rare emergency in children: Priapism and stepwise treatment approach.
Priapism is a rare condition in children and the treatment algorithm is controversial in this age group. Herein, we report eight cases with low-flow priapism and our stepwise treatment approach in light of literature. ⋯ Low-flow priapism is a urological emergency that may cause erectile dysfunction. Treatment options should be selected according to a protocol that prevents time loss and avoids more invasive treatment in unnecessary situations. Our algorithm with simple nature and its steps from less invasive to more invasive procedures may be an alternative for the treatment of low-flow priapism.

Review Case ReportsAn unusual etiology of a scrotal dog bite injury and review of the literature.
Soft tissue injuries from animal bites are encountered occasionally in rural areas, resulting from attacks by, for example, dogs, wolves, horses, donkeys, and cats. The commonly affected body parts include the face, head and neck, nose, ears, hands, arms, and legs. The traumatic exposure of the external genital organs following an animal bite is a highly rare condition. ⋯ No signs of local or systemic infection were noticed at the wound site during follow-up. Post-op-erative recovery was uneventful and the repair performed on the case had a satisfactory outcome. Based on our clinical experience, we believe that reconstruction accompanied by an early prophylactic antibiotherapy can produce satisfactory outcomes in genital defects caused by animal bites.
