General surgery practice under the COVID-19 pandemic: The experience of a pandemic hospital in Istanbul.
Although elective operations in general surgery clinics were postponed during the pandemic, non-deferrable operations such as emergency trauma, acute abdominal, and cancer surgeries continued. We aimed to present emergency and non-deferrable elective surgery cases in our hospital's general surgery clinic during the pandemic, to identify the general surgery patients that pose the greatest risk for healthcare workers who served these patients, and to share our experience in these situations. ⋯ Maintaining functional surgery departments under challenging times, such as a pandemic, will continue to be an important aspect of health systems. We believe that the results of this study will help reduce in-hospital transmission, help prevent disease transmission to healthcare personnel, and allow the members of the surgical teams to know in which patient group they will be at higher risk of infection during the operation.

Case ReportsA case of soft tissue hematoma detected incidentally on 99m TC-labelled RBC gastrointestinal bleeding SPECT/CT.
We report an incidental finding on 99mTc-labelled RBC gastrointestinal bleeding scintigraphy of a 49-year-old female patient referred to our clinic in order to localize the bleeding site. The patient has also been suffering from chronic renal insufficiency and received several interventions of femoral catheterization. During the follow-up, an intense uptake was observed at the right inguinofemoral area which is evaluated as a large soft tissue hematoma and confirmed by SPECT/CT subsequently. On the 24th h delayed image an activity accumulation along the bowel trace on the right side of the abdomen was seen as evidence of lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Use of deep learning methods for hand fracture detection from plain hand radiographs.
Patients with hand trauma are usually examined in emergency departments of hospitals. Hand fractures are frequently observed in patients with hand trauma. Here, we aim to develop a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) method to assist physicians in the diagnosis of hand fractures using deep learning methods. ⋯ We achieved promising results in this CAD method, which we developed by applying methods such as transfer learning, data augmentation, which are state-of-the-art practices in deep learning applications. This CAD method can assist physicians working in the emergency departments of small hospitals when interpreting hand radiographs, especially when it is difficult to reach qualified colleagues, such as night shifts and weekends.

Can formation of avascular necrosis really be prevented in Delbet type 2 femoral neck fractures?
Fractures of proximal femur are rarely seen in childhood. These fractures can result in serious complications such as avascular necrosis (AVN), coxa vara, and early closure of the femoral epiphysis. The aim of this study is to investigate retrospectively the Delbet type 2 fractures that are commonly seen and has high rates of AVN. ⋯ According to our findings in Delbet type 2 fractures, other than the severity of the trauma and the initial displacement of the fracture, factors related to the treatment process do not have a significant effect on the development of AVN. Age was not determined as a risk factor for the development of AVN in these patients.

The effectiveness of repairment of traumatic tympanic membrane perforations with cigarette paper.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of repairment of traumatic tympanic membrane perforation (TTMP) with cigarette paper patch (CPP) on perforation closure and hearing functions. ⋯ In the treatment of TTMP, early application of CPP is an effective treatment method in terms of both perforation closure and hearing gain.
