The present study aimed to characterize the mechanism of fluid shear stress (FSS)-induced endothelial cell (EC) injury via protein kinase C alpha (PKCα)-mediated vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin) and p120-catenin (p120ctn) expression. ⋯ The possible mechanism of FSS-induced EC injury may be as follows: 1) PKCα induces low expression of p120ctn, which leads to activation of NF-κB and degradation of VE-cadherin; 2) PKCα-mediated phosphorylation of p120ctn at S879 disrupts p120ctn binding to VE-cadherin.

A pressure wire offers a dynamic tool to assist in the measurement of the pressure gradient and assessment of the functional significance of stenosis. The author presents a patient with idiopathic intracranial hypertension who was diagnosed with cerebral venous sinus stenosis (CVSS). Venography accompanied by pressure measurement was used to guide the stent placement for CVSS. ⋯ This is the first report about using a pressure wire for CVSS. The finding suggests that use of a pressure wire can be a new approach in the diagnosis and treatment of CVSS.

miR-142-3p has been reported to be involved in several diseases, including cardiac hypertrophy and several tumors, but whether it exerts neuroprotective effects against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains unclear. ⋯ miR-142-3p-mediated down-regulation of FBXO3 may be a potential agent for protection against cerebral I/R injury.
