Vertebral compression fractures are the most common fragility fractures affecting osteoporotic patients. This study evaluated volume trends and outcomes across specialties performing cement augmentation procedures. ⋯ Kyphoplasties and vertebroplasties are increasingly performed by nonsurgeon specialists. Although early reoperation rates are higher for nonsurgeon specialists, 5-year and overall reoperation rates were similar. Differing complication rates may relate to patient selection rather than operative technique and can be investigated with future studies.

The objective is to introduce a low-cost simulation model for endoscopic-assisted sagittal craniosynostosis repair in which bleedings can be simulated and to present the initial experience using the model as a learning tool. ⋯ We introduce a low-cost simulation model for scaphocephaly endoscopic-assisted surgery in which bleeding can be reproduced. The initial experience shows the possibility of using the model as a learning tool.

Homonymous hemianopia has been reported after brain tumor resection with a significant effect on quality of life. Nevertheless, no standardized methods exist for intraoperative optical radiation mapping. The purpose of this article is to describe a new intraoperative task for visual mapping and to review the existing literature. ⋯ The use of DES might be associated with a better outcome (level IV evidence). However, standardization of intraoperative tasks during DES could be improved. In this context, the Central and Peripheral Image task might be an adequate tool for the resection of tumors affecting the optic radiations.

Laminectomy vs. Laminectomy with Fusion for Intradural Extramedullary Tumors: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
The primary objective of our systematic review and meta-analysis was to systematically compare the reported outcomes between laminectomy and laminectomy with fixation/fusion (LF) for the treatment of intradural extramedullary tumors (IDEMTs). Our secondary objective was to compare the outcomes between different laminectomy exposure techniques. ⋯ No differences between LF, PL, or TL in pain, neurologic deficit, functional independence, cerebrospinal fluid leak, or wound infection were reported. Laminectomy had greater odds of sagittal instability compared with LF. Patients with preoperative sagittal instability requiring extensive removal of the posterior spinal column to achieve adequate resection of large tumors might benefit from LF.

The purpose of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes and complications between the mini-open Wiltse approach with pedicle screw fixation (MWPSF) and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (PPSF) in treating neurologically intact thoracolumbar fractures. ⋯ Both MWPSF and PPSF are safe and effective treatments of neurologically intact thoracolumbar fractures. Nevertheless, our results have indicated that MWPSF might be the better choice, because it has a shorter learning curve and decreased facet joint violation, operative time, hospitalization costs, and radiation exposure. In addition, MWPSF was associated with better improvement of the postoperative vertebral body angle and percentage of vertebral body height.
