The existing data about language recovery in bilingual patients come from few studies on acute lesional deficits like stroke or traumatic injury. Still, little is known about the neuroplasticity potential of bilingual patients who undergo resection of gliomas affecting language-eloquent brain regions. In this study, we prospectively evaluated the pre- and postoperative language functions among bilinguals with eloquent region gliomas. ⋯ This study shows L1 is less vulnerable to operative insults and L2 may be damaged even when L1 is preserved. We would suggest the more sensitive L2 be used as the screening tool and L1 be used for confirmation of positive responses during language mapping.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is an idiopathic occlusive cerebrovascular disorder. The development of collateral circulation originates from the dural and pial collaterals. Currently, the clinical significance of transdural collateral in MMD has not been established. We sought to study the relationship between transdural collateral circulation and the side of relative cerebral ischemia in MMD. ⋯ Transdural collateral circulation was common in MMD patients. The transdural collaterals were associated with the occurrence of infarction. Transdural collaterals were well established on the cerebral ischemic side, which indicated higher ischemic levels in the ipsilateral than contralateral side.

A 39-year-old male presented to our institution after sustaining a gunshot wound to the face. He was initially unresponsive with bleeding from the nares bilaterally and was intubated for airway protection. A computed tomography angiogram of the head and neck demonstrated multiple foci of active extravasation in the left maxillary sinus. ⋯ Embolization immediately halted the bleeding. The patient was neurologically intact at his most recent follow-up appointment. This case demonstrates the importance of obtaining an emergent computed tomography angiography for patients with ballistic facial trauma and early involvement of endovascular neurosurgery for treatment of intractable sinonasal bleeding.

Identification of the key immune cells and genes for the diagnostics and therapeutics of meningioma.
Dysregulation of immune infiltration critically contributes to the tumorigenesis and progression of meningiomas. However, the landscape of immune microenvironment and key genes correlated with immune cell infiltration remains unclear. ⋯ ADCY1 can be identified as a diagnostic marker; ADCY1, BMX, KCNA5, SLCO4A1, and TTR are potential therapeutic targets, and their associations with macrophages, neutrophils, NK cells, and plasma cells might impact the tumorigenesis of meningiomas.
