Numerous studies have demonstrated a strong association between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and an increased risk of meningioma. However, this correlation remains controversial. This study utilized Mendelian randomization to explore this relationship from the perspective of genetic evidence. ⋯ The Mendelian randomization study revealed that TBI does not increase the risk of meningioma based on genetic evidence.

Complete traumatic dorsal spondyloptosis with no neurological involvement is so rare due to the inherent stability of the thoracic spine, that only 2 other cases are reported in literature. A 31-year male with history of fall, and normal neurological examination was noted to have grade 5 dislocation at D7-D8, with locking of D7-8 bodies and expanded canal due to pedicle fractures accommodating the displaced spinal cord. As the excessive manipulation to achieve reduction was deemed too risky to be worthy, it was decided to do in-situ fixation without reduction. ⋯ Under O-arm navigation, pedicle screws were placed in D5,6,8,9&10, with D8 screws crossing onto D7. The rods had to be contoured in S shape and maneuvered across all screw heads. The patient has remained asymptomatic for more than 2 years after surgery.

Percutaneous mesh-container-plasty (PMCP), a modified traditional percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) technique, is increasingly being used to treat osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures with up-endplate injury. This retrospective study aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of PKP and PMCP for the treatment of this disease. ⋯ PMCP provided superior clinical outcomes for the management of osteoporotic compression fractures with upper endplate injuries. It was associated with reduced operation and fluoroscopy times, as well as lower risks of adjacent vertebral fractures and cement leakage, compared to PKP.

External ventricular drain (EVD) is a fundamental neurosurgical procedure that is commonly performed by junior neurosurgeons. Expedient, successful cannulation of the ventricles can be lifesaving. Yet, the free-hand technique of EVD insertion is associated with significant malpositioning rates. This study aimed to improve EVD placement by junior neurosurgeons with the aid of a customized 3D-printed surgical guide. ⋯ For inexperienced surgeons, the 3D-printed EVD guide can improve ventricular cannulation even in cases of altered ventricular anatomy. The use of 3D printing would also allow the guide to be widely adopted by other institutions worldwide.

To evaluate the efficacy of hemilaminectomy as an approach to intradural tumors and to assess the risk of postoperative spinal instability. ⋯ Unilateral hemilaminectomy is an effective technique that facilitates complete tumor removal with a low rate of postoperative instability in the operated segments.
