Association between aspirin use and risk of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a meta-analysis.
To assess the association between aspirin use and risk of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). ⋯ A short-term use of aspirin (<3 months) is associated with an elevated risk of aSAH, whereas the role of its long-term use in either decreasing or increasing the risk of aSAH still requires well-designed, large-scale randomized control trials for verification.

De novo intracranial arteriovenous malformation - a case report and literature review.
Intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) have been considered congenital. We present and discuss a case of a child who had no evidence of an AVM at 6 years of age when presenting with parenchymatous hemorrhage due to cavernous angioma and who developed the lesion during 10 years of follow-up. ⋯ On the basis of recent findings of de novo AVMs and on the current theory of a postnatal origin of AVMs, we propose that AVMs cannot always be considered congenital and that several factors can contribute to their pathogenesis.

Grade V thoracic spondylolisthesis in neurofibromatosis type-1: a case report and literature review.
Grade V thoracic spondylolisthesis secondary to neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1), especially combined with vertebral fusion, is rare. We reported a case of a 26-year-old female diagnosed with grade V T2spondylolisthesis and T2-T5 autofusion secondary to NF-1, which caused severe kyphotic deformity and neurologic deficits, and she was treated with posterior decompression, internal fixation, and fusion. ⋯ Grade V thoracic spondylolisthesis combined with vertebral fusion on T2-T5 level in NF-1 is rare. Early surgical intervention of posterior spinal decompression with internal fixation and fusion yielded satisfactory clinical outcomes.

Ischemic stroke is one of the most intractable diseases of the central nervous system and is also a major cause of mortality and disability in adult humans. Unfortunately, current therapies target vessel recanalization, which has a narrow treatment window, and the potential adverse effects lead to a low rate of clinical employment; in addition, neuroprotective strategies are not effective for stroke treatment. ⋯ In this review, we describe the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying potential adult neurogenesis and review current preclinical and clinical cell-based therapies for enhancing neural regeneration after adult ischemic stroke. Although stroke-induced neurogenesis in humans does not seem to translate to neurofunctional recovery, we also summarize factors of potential treatment strategies with transplanted cells, including transplantation time, cell dosage, and administration route, to achieve optimum and effective cell-based therapy, thereby harnessing this neuroregenerative response to improve neurofunctional recovery after ischemic stroke.

Post-operative Unilateral Internal Cerebral Vein (ICV) Thrombosis with Venous Watershed Infarcts: A Case Report with Review of the Literature.
Cerebral venous complications related to neurosurgical interventions are only rarely reported in the literature. Internal cerebral veins (ICVs) are vulnerable to injury during neurosurgical approaches to the pineal and thalamic regions. The occurrence of unilateral postoperative ICV thrombosis in children is extremely rare, with only 2 such cases reported thus far. ⋯ Our reported case adds to the limited literature on postoperative ICV thrombosis in children and describes a unique imaging phenotype of venous watershed infarcts. Neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists should be aware of this unique imaging phenotype and have a high index of suspicion for deep cerebral venous thrombosis, especially in patients with prior neurosurgical intervention in the pineal or thalamic regions.
