The posterior cerebral arteries (PCAs) are terminal branches of the basilar artery (BA) and are responsible for the primary supply of the occipital lobe. Saccular aneurysm is most commonly seen close to the bifurcation of the BA. Various surgical interventions are performed for aneurysms. Therefore, the anatomy and localization of the BA and PCA are crucial. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of these arteries in a large Anatolian population. ⋯ The findings of our study will contribute to the planning of surgical approaches, the development of endovascular devices, the success of invasive procedures, and the reduction of complications.

Brain abscess is a focal infection occurring within the brain parenchyma consisting of a pus collection surrounded by a vascularized capsule and a fibrinous-caseous layer between the pus and capsule. Surgery is indicated for lesions with a diameter >25 mm. Different surgical approaches have been described, including puncturing of the abscess (under neuronavigation, stereotactic or echographic guidance) with aspiration of the purulent fluid through a catheter and craniotomy with microsurgical removal of the purulent material and surrounding capsule. ⋯ The use of an ultrasonic aspirator could facilitate complete and faster pus removal, increasing the efficacy of the procedure. The patient and his parents consented to the procedure and the report of the patient's case details and imaging studies. All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.

Optimal Frequency in rTMS for the Management of Chronic Pain: A Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) has been shown to be effective for pain modulation in a variety of pathological conditions causing neuropathic pain. The purpose of this study is to conduct a network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized control trials to identify the most optimal frequency required to achieve chronic pain modulation using rTMS. ⋯ This NMA suggests that high frequency rTMS (20 Hz) is the most optimal frequency for chronic pain modulation. These findings have important clinical implications and can guide healthcare professionals in selecting the most effective frequency for rTMS treatment in patients with chronic pain.

Prior literature has demonstrated barriers to successful residency matching, including sex, medical school background, and international medical graduate status. Our aim is to characterize the recent trends in successfully-matched residents, with particular attention to geography and academic productivity. ⋯ Geographical factors, reported sex, and graduation status have influenced how resident candidates are perceived. Understanding these trends is vital for future resident matching. Addressing gender and educational diversity is essential to foster inclusivity and research-driven environments in neurosurgery residency programs.

Application of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) for preventing dysphagia after anterior cervical surgery: A prospective study.
To evaluate the clinical value of intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) for dysphagia after anterior cervical surgery with and without IONM. ⋯ IONM is a promising tool for identifying and protecting the spinal cord and nerves during anterior cervical surgery. Our research revealed that IONM significantly reduced the occurrence of swallowing disorders 12 weeks after surgery, but the effect was not significant at the third or sixth week after surgery.
