Enucleation is a surgical technique to resect peripheral nerve schwannomas. The procedure has a low risk for postoperative deficit, but a small chance for recurrence, because tumor cells may remain inside the pseudocapsule that is left after resection. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans are frequently performed after surgery to investigate potential residual tumor, but currently there is little information in the literature on the value of follow-up with MRI. ⋯ Our data show that the value of postoperative MRI scans after enucleation of peripheral nerve schwannomas is limited, because residual enhancement in the beginning can be non-specific and the small percentage of patients, that persistently had a potential remnant, were all asymptomatic.

To compare traumatic spinal injury patterns between motorcyclists and occupants of other nonheavy motor vehicles using data from the National Spinal Cord and Column Injury Registry of Iran. ⋯ Motorcyclists were younger, less educated, had a higher proportion of males, and less commonly used safety devices than car occupants. The most commonly fractured spine region among both groups was the lumbar region. The cervical and sacral vertebrae fractures were significantly more common in car occupants, whereas the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae fractures were significantly more common in motorcyclists.

Multiple intracranial schwannomas of the vestibular and trigeminal nerves: Technical note.
A schwannoma is a nerve sheath tumor that is formed by Schwann cells. Vestibular schwannomas are thought to account for the majority of intracranial schwannomas. Nonvestibular schwannomas account for about 10%, about half of which are trigeminal schwannomas. Multiple intracranial schwannomas originating from different cranial nerves are extremely rare. ⋯ The presence of multiple intracranial schwannomas is extremely rare in neurosurgical practice and can change the intraoperative strategy and the course of the surgery.

Rhinorrhea is a common complication after endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal pituitary surgery (EETPS). This study evaluates the effectiveness of our sellar reconstruction technique in preventing rhinorrhea. ⋯ Intraoperative CSF leakage is highly correlated with rhinorrhea. Multilayered and graded closure strategies significantly reduce postoperative rhinorrhea rates in EETPS.
