Treatment modalities of ependymoma in infants remain controversial. Postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy could prolong overall survival but has the potential to affect nervous system development in infants. The role of adjuvant chemotherapy in prolonging overall survival for infants with ependymoma is still unclear. Therefore we designed this study to explore the effect of treatment modalities on survival time of infants with ependymoma. ⋯ Treatment modality is associated with survival time in infants with ependymoma. The extent of resection and chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors for infants with ependymoma.

Safety of Tailored Transfemoral Carotid Artery Stenting for Symptomatic Elderly Patients: A Single Center Observational Study.
Transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS) in symptomatic elderly patients (≥70 years old) may have a high periprocedural stroke rate. This study was performed to examine whether tailored TFCAS for symptomatic elderly patients is as safe as that for symptomatic nonelderly patients. ⋯ Symptomatic elderly patients have several unfavorable factors. However, tailored TFCAS for each patient based on preoperative examinations in symptomatic elderly patients may be as safe as that in symptomatic nonelderly patients.

Concomitant thoracic spinal dural arteriovenous fistula and spinal cavernous malformation.
Both spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) and spinal cavernous malformation (SCM) are uncommon vascular malformations. To our knowledge, such a case of SDAVF concomitant with SCM has not been reported. We encountered a case of a 55-year-old man who had weakness and numbness in both lower extremities. ⋯ Diagnostic angiography revealed an SDAVF fed by the right T7 radicular artery with venous drainage. The intramedullary venous hypertension due to fistula was suspected of inducing the formation of SCM. This case may provide new insight into the pathogenesis of SCM.

Cascading of referrals to health institutions aims to increase the balanced distribution and quality of health services provided. Although health institutions in Turkey are divided into steps in terms of scope, there is no mandatory referral system for patient application. ⋯ Only a minority of patients admitted to the neurosurgery outpatient clinic at a public health institution in Turkey were found to require surgery, while the majority were referred to other outpatient clinics. This study underscores the significance of the referral chain in delivering high-quality health care services, particularly in the field of neurosurgery.

Impact of endoscopic surgery versus robot CAS-R-2 assisted with stereotactic drainage on prognosis of basal ganglia hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
To evaluate the impact of endoscopic surgery (ES) versus robot CAS-R-2 assisted with stereotactic drainage on prognosis of basal ganglia hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH). ⋯ Compared with robot CAS-R-2 assisted with stereotactic drainage, ES might have higher rate of good prognosis at 6-month follow-up for basal ganglia HICH.
