Multicenter StudyPediatric patients receiving palliative care in Canada: results of a multicenter review.
To describe the patients who received care from the 8 dedicated pediatric palliative care programs in Canada in 2002 and to estimate the number of children who may have benefited but did not receive services from these programs. ⋯ Pediatric palliative care programs in Canada care for a diverse population of patients with a wide range of age and disease conditions. Only a small percentage of children who die, however, receive services from these dedicated programs.

Multicenter StudyHospital volumes for common pediatric specialty operations.
To describe hospital volumes for common pediatric specialty operations, to evaluate hospital and patient characteristics associated with operations performed at a low-volume hospital, and to evaluate outcomes with hospital volume. ⋯ Many children undergoing common pediatric specialty operations had these procedures performed in low-volume hospitals. Low-volume hospitals were less likely to be children's or teaching hospitals. Children undergoing tracheotomy experienced higher rates of complications in low-volume hospitals. Further research is needed to identify the reasons why so many children have these operations performed in low-volume hospitals.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyHealthy steps in an integrated delivery system: child and parent outcomes at 30 months.
To test the effects of the Healthy Steps for Young Children program (HS) (which supports parents managing children's developmental and behavioral issues)-with and without a prenatal component-on child health and development, parenting practices, and parental well-being. ⋯ For members of an integrated delivery system, the HS intervention was associated with positive effects on children's health and parenting practices. There was little evidence of any additional benefit of HS services initiated during the prenatal period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyMultisite controlled study of OROS methylphenidate in the treatment of adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Despite the persistence of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) into adolescence, little is known about the efficacy and tolerability of stimulant medications in this age group. ⋯ In adolescents, once-daily OROS methylphenidate significantly reduced ADHD symptoms and was well tolerated using dosages up to 72 mg/d.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA multisite randomized trial of the effects of physician education and organizational change in chronic-asthma care: health outcomes of the Pediatric Asthma Care Patient Outcomes Research Team II Study.
Traditional primary care practice change approaches have not led to full implementation of national asthma guidelines. ⋯ Planned care (nurse-mediated organizational change plus peer leader education) is an effective model for improving asthma care in the primary care setting. Peer leader education on its own may also serve as a useful model for improving asthma care, although it is less comprehensive and the treatment effect less pronounced.
