Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyKetamine versus alfentanil combined with propofol for sedation in colonoscopy procedures: a randomized prospective study.
Different drug combinations are used for sedation in colonoscopy procedures. A ketamine-propofol (ketofol) mixture provides effective sedation and has minimal adverse effects. Alfentanil also provides anesthesia for short surgical procedures by incremental injection as an adjunct. However, no study has investigated the use of ketofol compared with an opioid-propofol combination in colonoscopic procedures. ⋯ Ketofol provided better hemodynamic stability and quality of sedation compared with alfentanil-propofol combination in elective colonoscopy, and required fewer additional propofol; however, it prolonged discharge time. Both combinations can safely be used in colonoscopy sedation.

Is gastroesophageal reflux contribute to the development chronic cough by triggering pulmonary fibrosis.
Previous studies have shown that the prevalence of abnormal acid reflux in fibrotic lung disease patients is high, and in particular, patients with secondary pulmonary fibrosis show higher esophageal acid exposure than normal controls. There are also some findings that, in patients with pathological reflux, pulmonary fibrosis may develop. The aim of this study is to investigate if pulmonary fibrosis is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic cough due to Gastroesophageal Reflux. ⋯ Our findings do not support the hypothesis that gastroesophageal reflux leads to chronic cough by triggering alveolar epithelial injury and subsequent pulmonary fibrosis.

The relationship between insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in non-obese non-diabetic Turkish individuals: A pilot study.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is related to obesity, metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome may also be encountered in non-obese, non-diabetic individuals, and there are no published data about the prevalence of these conditions in non-obese, non-diabetic Turkish subjects. We aimed to determine the difference between non-obese, non-diabetic nonalcoholic fatty liver disease patients and healthy controls in terms of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome in Turkish subjects. ⋯ Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome are not rare in non-obese, non-diabetic Turkish subjects with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Ultrasonographically detected fatty liver was independently associated with insulin resistance, irrespective of the presence of metabolic syndrome.

Case ReportsA very rare cause of acute pancreatitis: Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy.
Pancreatitis is among rare diseases in pediatrics clinics. It is usually presented with a sign of underlying systemic disease. ⋯ Acromegaloid features, cardiomyopathy and mental retardation can also be present. We describe a 7-year-old Turkish boy with these clinical features of BSCL and presented with acute pancreatitis.

Relation between serum quantitative HBsAg, ALT and HBV DNA levels in HBeAg negative chronic HBV infection.
In this study, we aimed to investigate whether quantitative HBsAg and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels correlated with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) DNA levels in patients with HBeAg negative chronic HBV infection. ⋯ It has been concluded that quantitative measurements of HBsAg could be used to differentiate between IC and AC patients.
