Can Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA) Levels Be a Predictor of Acute Pancreatitis?
We aimed to evaluate the value of ischemia modified albumin (IMA) as a prognostic marker in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients, determine whether it is efficient in assessing the disease severity or not, and to estimate the correlation between IMA and the inflammatory markers, prognostic markers and scoring systems routinely used in clinical practice. ⋯ Our study is the first study to compare multiple prognostic factors with IMA in AP patients. In our study, the association between IMA and AP has been evaluated in the context of prognostic scoring and disease severity.

Palliative resection of primary site in advanced gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors improves survivals.
Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are rarely seen and have heterogeneous clinical outcomes. Mostly half of the patients had metastatic disease at presentation. Palliative resection of primary site in metastatic disease is still controversial. The aim of this study was to find out the influence of resection of primary tumor site on progression-free survival and overall survival in metastatic non-functioning gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The secondary end point is to determine the prognostic factors influencing the survivals. ⋯ Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors with primary site resected had improved survivals when compared to the unresected group.

Impaired thiol/disulfide homeostasis in patients with mild acute pancreatitis.
The aim of this study was to compare the dynamic thiol/disulfide (SS) homeostasis and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) concentration between healthy subjects and patients with mild acute pancreatitis (AP). ⋯ We found that mild AP may affect serum thiol and SS levels, and cause impaired thiol/SS homeostasis.

Meta AnalysisStandard triple therapy in Helicobacter pylori eradication in Turkey: Systematic evaluation and meta-analysis of 10-year studies.
This study aims at evaluating the mean eradication rate by a systematic compilation of the studies which involved the standard triple therapy (STT) in first-line Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication in Turkey over a period of 10 years between 2004 and 2013 using the meta-analysis method. ⋯ A systematic meta-analysis of studies conducted during the period 2004-2013 in Turkey revealed that the rate of first-line Hp eradication using STT was unacceptably low, and the duration of treatment and PPI used made no difference.

Assessment and outcome of pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction: A tertiary-care-center experience from Turkey.
Pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction (PIPO) is a severe disorder of gut motility. In this rare and difficult-to-manage disease, complex treatment method, such as intestinal transplantation, is sometimes needed. This study evaluated the management and follow-up results of patients with PIPO who received treatment at our center. ⋯ Pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a rare disease that can present with a wide range of clinical symptoms. While some patients require intestinal transplantation, supportive care may be sufficient in others. For this reason, patients with PIPO should be managed individually.
