Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is one of most frequently encountered problems after dental treatment of mentally and/or motor disabled patients under sedation or general anesthesia. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether PONV incidence in disabled patients differs between adults (≥18 years) and children/teenage (<18 years). Also investigating complication rates related with anesthesia protocols were additional objectives of the study. ⋯ PONV is more common in disabled patients younger than 18 years and dental treatment procedures under deep sedation can be provided with acceptable complication rates in patients with special needs.

Type A intramural hematoma in a patient with acute coronary syndrome mimicking acute Type A aortic dissection.
Intramural hematoma (IMH) of ascending aorta is a rare but potentially lethal form of acute aortic syndrome (AAS). It is characterized by a hematoma within the media layer of the aorta secondary to rupture of the vasa vasorum in the absence of an intimal tear. However, the theory of "micro-tear" which cannot be easily detected has been raised. ⋯ The CAG was terminated with a suspicion of Type A AD. The diagnosis of IMH starting just above RCA ostium with a thickness of 18 mm was made with computed tomographic angiography. An emergent surgical repair of the aorta and one-vessel coronary artery bypass graft surgery was performed successfully in our patient.

Several publications have presented pattern of maxillofacial surgical conditions based on data from hospital-based studies. The objective of this study is to present the spectrum of maxillofacial surgical conditions from the perspective of a community study. ⋯ The spectrum of maxillofacial surgery from community-based data was associated with higher percentage of facial cleft as compared to hospital-based study that is associated with higher traumatic injury cases. High level of poverty, ignorance, and poor access to maxillofacial service have been identified as shortcomings in the management of the diseases. There is a need for pragmatic move to improve facility, training, enlightenment, and more funding of outreach programs.

During the early years of life, children get most of their information by relying on their visual observation. Knowledge of visual skill development and environmental risk factors influencing it provides useful guide for early identification of children who may develop some form of visual impairment. ⋯ Identification and management of environmental factors negatively affecting visual skill development will help improve on the visual skill area and invariably child development.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of digital models produced with the three-dimensional dental scanner, and to test the dimensional stability of alginate impressions for durations of immediately (T0), 1 day (T1), and 2 days (T2). ⋯ This study showed that measurements on negative digital models offer a high degree of validity when compared to measurements on positive digital models and plaster models; differences between the techniques are clinically acceptable. Direct scanning of the impressions is practicable method for orthodontists.
