Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and macklin effect: Three rare case reports with computed tomography findings.
Spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) is defined as free air or gas in the mediastinum that is not associated with an obvious cause such as chest trauma. The SPM results from acutely elevated intra-alveolar pressure: The high-pressure gradient between the distal alveoli and the pulmonary interstitium leads to alveolar rupture. ⋯ The Macklin effect appears on thoracic computed tomography (CT) as linear air collections adjacent to bronchovascular sheaths. This case report presents CT findings of SPM due to the Macklin effect in three cases and a brief literature review on this subject.

Retained lumbar intradural bullet fragment with neurological recovery after delayed removal of bullet: Case report and literature review.
Civilian gunshot wound (GSW) to the spine is expected to increase in our environment due to the recent surge in violence and firearm attacks in the society either by herdsmen, bandits, unknown gunmen, or from exchange of gun fire with security personnel in response to insecurity issues. The management of GSW in the spine remains controversial, with no clear recommendations for surgical intervention by spine surgeons. In light of this, we report a case of civilian GSW to the lumbar spine in a 47-year-old female with resultant immediate paraplegia. ⋯ She underwent laminectomy and duratomy with removal of the bullet. Motor function returned 3 weeks after the surgery, and she was discharged home 8 weeks after the surgery, actively mobilizing on a Zimmer frame. The case report demonstrates the beneficial role of surgical intervention in properly selected patients, with resultant satisfactory functional neurological recovery.

Rupture of a non sinus of Valsalva aneurysm during pregnancy: Case report and review of literatures.
Ruptured Sinus of Valsalva aneurysms during pregnancy is rare and presents a threat both to the mother and the fetus. We report a case of ruptured nonsinus of Valsalva aneurysms in a 26-year-old woman diagnosed at 32+4 weeks of gestation. ⋯ A successful surgical correction of the ruptured aneurysm under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) was performed with patch repair after 13 days. A multidisciplinary approach with respect to the pregnant patient's diagnosis, indications, and timing of surgery is necessary in ensuring the best possible outcomes for both the mother and the child.

Meta Analysis
Prevalence and trends of adult overweight and obesity in Nigeria - A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The prevalence of obesity and its attendant complications are on the increase globally-sub-Saharan Africa inclusive. Obesity confers an increased risk of coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, ischemic stroke, and some cancers. In Nigeria, several individual reports estimate an exponential increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity. ⋯ The prevalence of obesity and overweight in Nigeria is high with a rising trend over the years. A Nigerian national health survey of non-communicable diseases especially the burden of overweight/obesity is recommended to through more light on the subject. There is need for concerted effort to tame the tide of rising obesity rates in Nigeria.

Review Case Reports
Two cases of fetal inguinoscrotal hernia and review of the literature.
Fetal inguinal hernia is quite rare and here we report two cases of prenatally diagnosed inguinoscrotal hernia to add to the limited understanding of this rare condition. The disappearance of blood flow signal in the scrotum may be helpful in detecting fetal incarcerated inguinoscrotal hernia that may progress to strangulation. If bowel dilatation was observed in such cases, the physician should be alert to identify primary intestinal obstruction caused by congenital digestive tract malformation and secondary intestinal obstruction caused by incarceration.
