Spontaneous pneumomediastinum and macklin effect: Three rare case reports with computed tomography findings.
Spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) is defined as free air or gas in the mediastinum that is not associated with an obvious cause such as chest trauma. The SPM results from acutely elevated intra-alveolar pressure: The high-pressure gradient between the distal alveoli and the pulmonary interstitium leads to alveolar rupture. ⋯ The Macklin effect appears on thoracic computed tomography (CT) as linear air collections adjacent to bronchovascular sheaths. This case report presents CT findings of SPM due to the Macklin effect in three cases and a brief literature review on this subject.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Evaluation of the clinical impact and In Vitro antibacterial activities of two bioactive restoratives against S. mutans ATCC 25175 in class II carious restorations.
Streptococcus mutans is a Gram-positive opportunistic bacterial pathogen and that causes dental caries and then restorative treatment remains the best clinical practice approach to repair and prevent dental caries. ⋯ The novel application of ACTIVA restorative material is a promising option for patients at risk of caries.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Osteocalcin and cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen in gingival crevicular fluid during piezocision accelerated orthodontic tooth movement: A randomized split-mouth study.
Piezocision, a minimally invasive surgical procedure, has been used to accelerate tooth movement'' is appropriate as a background to the abstract section. ⋯ Piezocision was found to be an effective treatment procedure for accelerating canine distalization accompanied by increased levels of OC and ICTP.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication in pregnancy that occurs during the second half of pregnancy. In the majority of patients, medical nutritional therapy (MNT) alone is sufficient to achieve the glycemic goal. ⋯ Fasting glucose level is the most important predictor of the need for insulin therapy.

The level of spousal involvement in antenatal care (ANC) is not what it should be. This is a concern because a number of preventable maternal and neonatal mortality or morbidity can be attributed to a lack of interest or participation in ANC by their spouses, which usually result in a delay in seeking healthcare and/or delay in reaching a healthcare facility. ⋯ Spousal involvement in ANC in this study was above average. Measures that can consolidate the identified predictors of good spousal involvement in ANC should be adopted.
