Obesity is a chronic, multifaceted, leading health problem causing numerous non-communicable diseases with a huge burden on the global healthcare system and economies. Worldwide, multiple interventions have been familiarized for weight reduction strategies, however, in recent years, mobile health applications (mHealth apps) for reshaping weight reduction have been introduced. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the role of mobile health applications in reducing weight among users in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. ⋯ The study participants using mobile health applications (mHealth apps) had significantly reduced their body weight and felt healthier. The mHealth apps provide health-related information regularly to individuals to track their weight, monitor diet, and physical activity, and information about their overall health.

To compare the epidemic trends of different types of influenza viruses and the clinical characteristics of patients, so as to provide reference for influenza prevention and control. ⋯ People aged 0-18 years are the major susceptible population to influenza, and H1N1 influenza viruses are the main pathogens of infection in this population, with major clinical manifestations of fever, cough and headache. The findings in this study highlight the necessity to strengthen the protection for this age group in clinical practice.

In thalassemia major, repeated blood transfusions result in iron overload causing organ damage. The objective of this study was assessment of liver enzymes in patients with Thalassemia major and to observe their association with ferritin. ⋯ Liver damage was caused by increased iron deposition. LFTs should be performed regularly to detect and reduce liver damage by increasing chelation therapy, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality due to thalassemia.

Following endoscopic detorsion, sigmoid volvulus (SV) recurs in 3%-86% of patients, approximately 13% of which are early recurrence presenting during the first admission period. Although semielective surgery is the traditional approach, elective surgery following repetitive endoscopy or percutaneous endoscopic sigmoidopexy (PES) are other alternatives in the management of early SV recurrence. Our aim was to discuss the role of semielective surgery in above-mentioned rare clinical entity. ⋯ Semielective surgery is the traditional approach tried by most surgeons, which allows for the recovery of the general status of the patients, bowel preparation, and antibiotic prophylaxis. However, repetitive endoscopy followed by elective surgery or PES are current alternatives for some selected patients. Unfortunately, the relatively low effectuation rate of elective surgery following successful repetitive endoscopic detorsion and recurrence-related poor prognosis are still important handicaps of the latter procedure.
