To evaluate total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and paraoxonase 1 (PON1) levels in children with noncystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis (BE), and to compare these levels with those of healthy controls. The study parameters were also evaluated according to some demographic, anthropometric, and clinical characteristics, as well as lung functions. ⋯ The present study demonstrated that compared with the control group the children with non-CF BE had elevated oxidative status, antioxidant defenses parameters, and PON1 values.

Thin and flexible flaps are needed for the repair of extremity tissue defects. Serratus fascia flaps are the most suitable options. There are only a few case reports and case series in the literature. We have aimed to increase the success rate by taking the serratus fascia flaps together with some muscle tissue for the repair of extremity tissue defects. ⋯ In reconstruction of complex shallow defects of the extremities in which a gliding effect is desired, FSMFF may be an ideal option with its advantages as it does not sacrifice a major vessel, does not leave a hidden and short scar, can be harvested in wide dimensions, and allows the use of the surrounding tissues such as the latissimus dorsi muscle and scapular bone.

Most inborn metabolic diseases are diagnosed during the neonatal period. The accumulation of toxic metabolites may cause acute metabolic crisis with long-term neurological dysfunction and death. Renal replacement therapy (RRT) modalities allow the efficient removal of toxic metabolites. In this study, we reviewed our experience with continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) as RRT for newborns with an inborn metabolic disease. ⋯ CVVHDF is a CRRT modality that can be used to treat newborns with an inborn metabolic disease. Early diagnosis, commencement of specific medical therapy, diet, and extracorporeal support, if needed, are likely to result in improved short and long- term outcomes.

Dermoscopy is a diagnostic tool that assists in imaging the epidermis and dermis. Although it has also started to be used to diagnose nonmelanocytic lesions recently, it has not been tested much on oral mucosal masses, such as oral mucoceles. This study aimed to investigate whether dermoscopy is a valuable tool in diagnosing oral mucoceles. ⋯ We concluded that there are 3 types of extravasation mucoceles dermoscopically and clinically, and these types may be stages of transition between each other.

Non-Wilms renal tumors (NWRTs) are rarely encountered in children. The aim of this study is to determine the treatment strategies, prognosis, outcomes, and survival of children with NWRTs at Erciyes University in Kayseri, Turkey. ⋯ We have made the first report of bilateral renal involvement of ES/PNET in the English medical literature. Physicians dealing with pediatric renal masses should be alert to the high mortality rate in children with MRT, MBN, and ES/PNET and they should design substantial management plans for NWRTs.
