Food allergy (FA) has become an increasing problem throughout the world. Over the last 2 decades, the frequency of FA has increased in both children and adults. The prevalence differs according to the research methodology, age, and geographic regions, ranging between 2.0% and 10.0%. ⋯ The gold standard in the diagnosis of FA is oral provocation tests. Epidermal skin prick tests and specific IgE measurements, as well as component-resolved diagnostic techniques are helpful in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients. In this review, the epidemiology, diagnosis, follow-up, and prognosis of IgE-mediated FA in children and adults were discussed and some specific forms of FA, such as pollen FA syndrome, alpha-gal allergy, and food-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis were explained.

Do we need postoperative antibiotics in supratentorial clean neurosurgery? A prospective, randomized, single-blind, and placebo-controlled study.
To assess the efficacy of postoperative antibiotics on postoperative infection in clean supratentorial craniotomies. ⋯ Our results showed that antibiotic prophylaxis after a clean supratentorial craniotomy has no effect on the prevention of postoperative infection and we do not suggest using antibiotic prophylaxis after clean supratentorial neurosurgery.

A coronavirus brought the first pandemic attack of this century as a flu virus did a hundred years ago. This greatest pandemic of the century brings us new opportunities to understand and explore the dynamics of a contagious disease. ⋯ Not only the origin of the virus but also Ro value, possible transmission routes, epidemiologic curves, case fatality rates, seasonality, severity and mortality risk factor, effects on the risk groups, differences between countries and so on still require strong evidence prior to making final suggestions. In this review, we tried to evaluate the epidemiological evidence to scrutinize where exactly we are in this pandemic.

This meta-analysis comprehensively investigated the efficacy and safety of rituximab (RTX) in patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). ⋯ Treatment of IMN with RTX has comparable efficacy to other immunosuppressive treatments (ISTs). RTX has the advantages of no requirement for steroids and lower rates adverse event and relapse rates. Patients who relapse or are resistant to other IST agents also respond to RTX. RTX-based regimens and other B-cell-targeted therapies may represent the future of IMN therapy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as a Public Health Emergency of international concern on January 30, 2020, and a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Afterward, it spread rapidly all over the world, causing almost 4 million deaths as of June 2021. It is clear that effective preventive measures are needed in this devastating disease, which still has no cure. ⋯ All over the world, the measures taken and activities performed in the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed, and information in this regard is shared. Mask usage, social distancing, hygiene, avoiding crowded and closed areas, contact tracing, rapid and accurate testing, increased indoor air quality, vaccination, and lockdown measures constitute the main preventive measures. This review summarizes the efficiency of public policy measures against COVID-19.
