Randomized Controlled TrialProspective evaluation of pain and follow-up results when pre-cooling skin versus buffering lidocaine for upper blepharoplasty.
To find out whether there is a difference in the incidence of injection pain and other complications using pre-cooling versus the buffered equivalent in upper blepharoplasty. ⋯ Pre-cooling could induce similar injection pain relief to that of buffered lidocaine while maintaining longer postoperative anesthetic results than buffered lidocaine.

Randomized Controlled TrialSafety and efficacy of lorcaserin: a combined analysis of the BLOOM and BLOSSOM trials.
Lorcaserin, a novel selective 5-HT2C receptor agonist, is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for weight management in combination with lifestyle modification for adults with obesity and adults with overweight and ≥ 1 weight-related comorbid condition. The safety and effectiveness of lorcaserin in adult patients without type 2 diabetes mellitus was established based on 2 phase III clinical trials of similar design: Behavioral Modification and Lorcaserin for Overweight and Obesity Management (BLOOM) and Behavioral Modification and Lorcaserin Second Study for Obesity Management (BLOSSOM). This report presents a prespecified analysis of pooled data from these trials. ⋯ This pooled analysis of the phase III BLOOM and BLOSSOM trials shows that lorcaserin 10 mg twice daily, in combination with diet and exercise, is safe and tolerable, and is associated with statistically significant weight loss and clinically relevant improvements in cardiometabolic parameters.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of subjective effects of extended-release versus immediate-release oxycodone/acetaminophen tablets in healthy nondependent recreational users of prescription opioids: a randomized trial.
Prescription opioids have substantial abuse potential. This study compared the positive subjective drug effects of a newly developed extended-release (ER) oxycodone (OC)/acetaminophen (acetyl-para-aminophenol [APAP]) formulation with those of immediate-release (IR) OC/APAP. ⋯ This phase 1 study conducted in the United States was not registered.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyThe management of acute hypertension in patients with renal dysfunction: labetalol or nicardipine?
To compare the safety and efficacy of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-recommended doses of labetalol and nicardipine for hypertension (HTN) management in a subset of patients with renal dysfunction (RD). ⋯ Within 30 minutes of administration, nicardipine is more efficacious than labetalol for acute blood pressure control in patients with RD.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe impact of weight loss on weight-related quality of life and health satisfaction: results from a trial comparing canagliflozin with sitagliptin in triple therapy among people with type 2 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is primarily a self-managed disease in which self-care behaviors play an important role in achieving optimal outcomes. Because self-care does not result in immediate tangible or noticeable benefits, adherence to such a regimen can be confusing, difficult, and frustrating. ⋯ In this study, we explored the impact of the average weight loss amount demonstrated with canagliflozin treatment on improvement in 3 patient-relevant outcomes that have been linked to performance of healthy behaviors and better outcomes in T2DM: weight-related quality of life, as measured by the Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite (IWQOL-Lite) questionnaire, and satisfaction with physical health and emotional health, as measured by the Current Health Satisfaction Questionnaire (CHES-Q), using data from a previously reported study. Weight loss of an amount demonstrated in clinical trials of canagliflozin was associated with improvements in weight-related quality of life and satisfaction with physical and emotional health, concepts shown to be important to the persistent and consistent performance of healthy behaviors.
