The prevalence of hyperlipoproteinemia(a) in outpatient cardiology clinic patients of European ancestry: results from a STAR-Lp(a) cross-sectional study.
Elevated levels of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] are independently associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). ⋯ The observed prevalence of increased Lp(a) concentration among patients of European ancestry treated at outpatient cardiology clinics was 21.5%. Female sex, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, migraine, and concentrations of LDL‑C and HbA1c were independently related to the level of Lp(a) in this population.

Rare transthyretin gene variants (p.Ala45Thr, p.Val91Ala, p.Phe53Cys, p.Ala101Val, p.Glu109Lys and p.Phe53Leu): diagnostic pitfalls and clinical characteristics of Polish patients with transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis.
The knowledge about clinical features of Polish patients with hereditary type of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (hATTR-CA) is scant. ⋯ This study broadens our knowledge regarding genotype‑phenotype correlations of specific TTR variants, widens the spectrum of identified TTR variants in the Polish population, and shows limited value of [99mTc]Tc‑DPD scintigraphy in some patients with hATTR‑CA. In the cases with strong suspicion of ATTR‑CA and inconclusive [99mTc]Tc‑DPD scintigraphy results, genetic testing should be considered.

Addition of Tilburg frailty indicator to the classic Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events risk score improves its prognostic value in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Since proper risk stratification in a growing population of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is challenging, a potential advantage of adding the elements of geriatric assessment to the commonly used Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) 2.0 scale in predicting the risk of 6‑month death requires investigation. ⋯ Adding the FS assessment to the traditional GRACE scale improves its prognostic value in elderly patients with ACS.
