Meta AnalysisNeuropsychiatric adverse events in tenofovir disoproxil fumarate- and tenofovir alafenamide-based HIV therapy and prophylaxis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Tenofovir is integral to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV; however, neuropsychiatric adverse events (NPAEs) associated with its use have not been systematically investigated. ⋯ Common occurrence of NPAEs in tenofovir‑based HIV multidrug regimens highlights the need to screen HIV patients for neuropsychiatric complications. The lack of effect of tenofovir, as compared with placebo, for most analyzable NPAEs suggests its favorable safety profile. However, a possible increase in the dizziness risk on tenofovir, and a potentially elevated risk of headache on tenofovir alafenamide- as compared with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based regimens in HIV therapy merit further investigation.

Meta AnalysisLong-term prognostic scores may underestimate the risk of death in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in whom red cells distribution width is elevated.
Risk prediction in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is one of the key challenges for clinicians. Novel biomarkers aggregating several important pathophysiological pathways may modify the diagnostic discrimination of validated scores. The red cell distribution width (RDW) is a cheap and easily available measure of anisocytosis, and was shown to have a strong independent prognostic power in short- and medium‑term prognosis in HFrEF. ⋯ The RDW has a strong prognostic value in chronic HFrEF, independently of the risk assessed by the MAGGIC‑HF or the SHFSM score.

Meta AnalysisSeroconversion following a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine in liver transplant recipients. A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Although it is well established that 2 doses of COVID‑19 vaccines are associated with reduced immune responses in liver transplant recipients (LTRs), studies regarding their immunogenicity and tolerability after a booster dose are limited. ⋯ Our meta‑analysis demonstrated that the third dose of COVID‑19 vaccines induced adequate humoral and cellular immune responses in LTRs, while MMF remained a negative predictor of immunologic responses.

Meta AnalysisAssociation between inherited thrombophilia and venous thromboembolism in patients with Non-O Blood Type: a meta-analysis.
Hereditary conditions, including non‑O blood group or thrombophilic alterations such as factor V Leiden (FVL) and G20210A prothrombin mutation (G20210A PTM), are usually considered risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). ⋯ The co‑occurrence of FVL and the non‑O group enhances the risk of VTE that could have clinical influence and drive therapeutic corrections. The coexistence of PTM and the non‑O blood group seems to play a less important role in the incidence of VTE.

Meta AnalysisMortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients with fungal infections: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
Patients with COVID‑19 may develop concomitant viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. Such patients are at a higher risk of death, especially from a critical illness. Although much attention has been recently given to fungal infections that may have devastating consequences, data on this issue are scarce. ⋯ In critically ill patients with COVID‑ 19, CAPA is rather common and significantly increases mortality. The evidence regarding other fungal infections is weaker, with CAC occurring less frequently but also impacting mortality. Therefore, clinical awareness and screening are needed, followed by personalized antifungal therapy stewardship, which is strongly recommended in order to improve the patients' prognosis.
