[Suprarenal inferior vena cava filters. Retrospective review of 30 cases].
Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are used to prevent massive pulmonary embolism in cases where anticoagulation is contraindicated or has failed. It is usually implanted below the renal veins. In a few cases it is necessary to deploy the filter above them, with theoretical risk of secondary renal failure. ⋯ In this retrospective analysis of patients, suprarenal placement of IVC filters was not associated to secondary renal failure, and showed good short and long term results.

Dissections that involve the ascending aorta are classified as type A, regardless of the site of the primary intimal tear, and all other dissections as type B. Type B dissections can have fatal ischemic and hemorrhagic complications. In the chronic state, dilatation and rupture can be mortal. Endovascular surgery is a therapeutic alternative, considering the high rate of complications of conventional surgery. ⋯ Endovascular treatment of type B aortic dissection has good immediate and long term results.

Review Case Reports[Pleural and ascitic fluid infection by Listeria monocytogenes. Report of one case].

He was successfully treated with ampicillin and a chest tube for drainage.

The public dissemination of advances in biomedical research and clinical medicine generates several difficulties and problems. Mass media have the responsibility to report accurately and in a comprehensive way, and physicians and researchers must provide this information in a timely manner and without bias. After reviewing the literature related to this subject and discussing some examples of inadequate information in the Chilean context, the authors suggest the following recommendations: journalists should compare and evaluate the information appropriately before its publication, researchers and journalists should work together, reports should inform clearly about the state of the research and every academic institution should avoid reporting publicly preliminary experiences. If these recommendations are followed, the general public, physicians, researchers and health care institutions will be benefited.

Case Reports[Spontaneous dissection of the renal artery and kidney infarction: report of two cases].

An abdominal CT scan showed in both a kidney infarction. ⋯ Both had a satisfactory evolution with conservative treatment. The relationship between fibromuscular dysplasia and spontaneous dissection of the renal artery is discussed.
