ReviewThe Management of Restless Legs Syndrome: An Updated Algorithm.
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common disorder. The population prevalence is 1.5% to 2.7% in a subgroup of patients having more severe RLS with symptoms occurring 2 or more times a week and causing at least moderate distress. It is important for primary care physicians to be familiar with the disorder and its management. ⋯ We discuss the available drugs, the factors determining which to use, and their adverse effects. We define refractory RLS and describe management approaches, including combination therapy and the use of high-potency opioids. Treatment of RLS in pregnancy and childhood is discussed.

ReviewTrust-Based Partnerships Are Essential - and Achievable - in Health Care Service.
When people think about trust in the context of health care, they typically focus on whether patients trust the competence of doctors and other health professionals. But for health care to reach its full potential as a service, trust must also include the notion of partnership, whereby patients see their clinicians as reliable, caring, shared decision-makers who provide ongoing "healing" in its broadest sense. ⋯ Health systems and institutions that prioritize trust-based partnerships with patients have put these concepts into practice using several concrete approaches: investing in organizational culture; hiring health professionals for their values, not just their skills; promoting continuous learning; attending to the power of language in all care interactions; offering patients "go-to" sources for timely assistance; and creating systems and structures that have trust built into their very design. It is in the real-world implementation of trust-based partnership that health care can reclaim its core mission.

ReviewPreoperative Management of Endocrine, Hormonal, and Urologic Medications: Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI) Consensus Statement.
Perioperative medical management is challenging due to the rising complexity of patients presenting for surgical procedures. A key part of preoperative optimization is appropriate management of long-term medications, yet guidelines and consensus statements for perioperative medication management are lacking. Available resources utilize the recommendations derived from individual studies and do not include a multidisciplinary focus or formal consensus. ⋯ The aim of this Consensus Statement is to provide practical guidance on the preoperative management of endocrine, hormonal, and urologic medications. A panel of experts with anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, hospital medicine, general internal medicine, and medical specialty experience was drawn together and identified the common medications in each of these categories. The authors then utilized a modified Delphi approach to critically review the literature and generate consensus recommendations.

ReviewAtrial Fibrillation and Endothelial Dysfunction: A Potential Link?
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and coronary atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in the United States and worldwide. Endothelial dysfunction is the earliest clinically detectable form of atherosclerosis. ⋯ Decades of AF research have yielded fundamental insight into AF pathophysiology, but current pharmacological and catheter-based invasive AF therapies have limited long-term efficacy and substantial side effects, possibly because of incomplete understanding of underlying complex AF pathophysiology. We hereby discuss potential mechanistic links between endothelial dysfunction and AF (risk-factor-associated systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, myocardial ischemia, common gene variants, vascular shear stress, and fibroblast growth factor-23), explore a potential new vascular dimension to AF pathophysiology, highlight a growing body of evidence supporting an association between systemic vascular endothelial dysfunction, AF, and stroke, and discuss potential common effective therapies.

ReviewLeveraging the Electronic Health Record to Address the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues its global spread. Coordinated effort on a vast scale is required to halt its progression and to save lives. Electronic health record (EHR) data are a valuable resource to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ When linked to "omics" data, the EHR could facilitate identification of genetic susceptibility variants, leading to insights into risk factors, disease complications, and drug repurposing. Real-time monitoring of patients could enable early detection of potential complications, informing appropriate interventions and therapy. We reviewed relevant articles from PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar searches as well as preprint servers, given the rapidly evolving understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic.
