Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyFrequently Reported Adverse Events With Smoking Cessation Medications: Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Trial.
To compare the incidence, severity, and clinical course of frequently reported adverse events (AEs) after treatment with smoking cessation pharmacotherapies. ⋯ Active treatments were well tolerated with comparable AE profiles. Most AEs are not clinically important, and prescribers can reassure patients that those experienced will be manageable.

Randomized Controlled TrialMicrovascular Disease and Risk of Cardiovascular Events and Death From Intensive Treatment in Type 2 Diabetes: The ACCORDION Study.
To assess whether the presence of microvascular complications modifies the effect of intensive glucose reduction on long-term outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. ⋯ This hypothesis-generating study identifies diabetic retinopathy as predictor of the beneficial effect of intensive glucose control on the risk of cardiovascular disease and possibly death. Further long-term studies are required to confirm these findings.

To assess whether vision-threatening retinopathy developed after 4 years in patients with type 2 diabetes with good glycemic control during follow-up. ⋯ It may be safe to extend screening intervals for diabetic retinopathy to 4 years or longer in patients with type 2 diabetes with no retinopathy.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Impact of a 20-Minute Animal-Assisted Activity Session on the Physiological and Emotional States in Patients With Fibromyalgia.
To study the direct physiological and emotional impact of an animal-assisted activity (AAA) session (a form of complementary and integrative medicine) in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). ⋯ Our results suggest that a 20-minute therapy dog visit in an outpatient setting can significantly and positively impact the physical and mental health of patients with FM.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyEffect of Acupuncture in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
To evaluate the effect and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) through comparisons with those of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000 and pinaverium bromide. ⋯ Acupuncture may be more effective than PEG 4000 or pinaverium bromide for the treatment of IBS, with effects lasting up to 12 weeks.
