In the available literature, there are single papers on the association of the values of external respiratory function and the EchoCG sings of pulmonary hypertension with the morphological parameters of pulmonary arterial branches in idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (IPH) and secondary pulmonary hypertension (SPH). The present investigation comprised a comprehensive study of life-time functional changes in the cardiopulmonary system and postmortem morphometric changes in the heart and pulmonary vessels in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)-induced SPH and IPH. ⋯ The magnitude of right and left ventricular dysfunction corresponds to the degree of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and cor pulmonale. In IPF, the decreases in tidal volumes and pulmonary diffusion capacity favor PH progression.

The analysis of 7 cases of subacute spongiform encephalopathy, the Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD), is given. Three main morphological features are typical for this disease: spongiform change of the grey matter, progressive neuronal loss and proliferation of the astroglia cells. ⋯ As a rule, the disease affects at first the cortex of the cerebral hemispheres, then subcortical nuclear groups, cerebellum and more rarely nuclear groups of the brain stem. The demyelinization of the white matter of the cerebral hemispheres is not obligatory for the CJD and appears in cases with a severe lesion of the grey matter.

[The role of Pathology Department of the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in the development of forensic medicine].
The chair of pathology has greatly contributed to establishment and development of prosector's speciality: training of pathologists, initiation of first clinico-anatomical conferences and their upgrading, introduction of novel morphological techniques and other advanced methods, publication of books, guidelines, manuals. The chair, A. ⋯ V. Davydovsky especially, contributed much to transformation of the pathology service in Russia after 1917.

[Pathological anatomy of the myorenal syndrome in the light of current methods of treatment].
Clinical and morphologic analysis of material from 39 patients who died from the myorenal syndrome is given. It is shown that during last 10 years the mortality rate from this syndrome is markedly reduced from 55 to 14% due to new active methods of detoxication. ⋯ It is noted also that progress in the treatment changed the whole structure of mortality, and the role of new complications, mainly septicemia, was increased. The sources of septicemia are both skin and muscles lesions and catheters and shunts used in modern methods of treatment.

The results of 424 biopsies obtained at fibrobronchoscopy (FBS) from 45 patients with inhalation trauma (IT) are presented. The standard and endoscopic laser treatment (ELT) have been used (24 and 21 patients, respectively). ⋯ Morphologically, early and continuous ELT was not associated with signs of severe purulent inflammation and, therefore, produced no early additional, damage to the wall. This may explain accelerated formation of the granulation tissue at the ulcer bottom and epithelization at the margin areas.
