The role of transarterial embolization in the management of hematuria secondary to congenital renal arteriovenous malformations.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transarterial embolization (TAE) in the management of hematuria secondary to congenital renal arteriovenous malformations (AVM). ⋯ For unexplained massive hematuria, congenital renal AVM needs to be considered as a differential diagnosis. Selective renal angiography and embolization should be recommended as the first choice to treat massive hematuria secondary to congenital renal AVM.

Introducing the productive operating theatre programme in urology theatre suites.
The Productive Operating Theatre (TPOT) is a theatre improvement programme designed by the UK National Health Service. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation of TPOT in urology operating theatres and identify obstacles to running an ideal operating list. ⋯ TPOT has helped identify key obstacles and shown improvements in efficiency measures such as start/overrun times.

Case ReportsRelease of the inferior vena cava ligament during caval thrombectomy causing tumor thrombus embolization.
Intraoperative tumor embolization is a rare complication during the surgical management of renal cell carcinoma with tumor thrombus of the inferior vena cava (IVC). We present a case of pulmonary tumor embolism which occurred during liver mobilization immediately following division of the IVC ligament. We hypothesize that this patient's IVC ligament acted as an external barrier to propagation of the tumor thrombus and that its release caused the tumor to rapidly expand leading to embolization. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a pulmonary tumor embolism occurring immediately following division of the IVC ligament.

The clinical significance of PCDH10 promoter methylation in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
To investigate the clinical significance of PCDH10 (protocadherin 10) promoter methylation in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). ⋯ PCDH10 methylation is closely associated with malignancy of bladder TCC and may be used as an independent predictor for patients with bladder TCC.

Perioperative complications after radical prostatectomy: open versus robot-assisted laparoscopic approach.
The best technique of radical prostatectomy - open versus robot-assisted approach - is controversially discussed. In this study, we compared the complication rates of open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy during the introduction and subsequent routine use of a da Vinci® robotic device while open surgery remained the standard approach. ⋯ Open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy had comparable complication rates. With better patient- and tumor-related parameters as well as decreasing transfusion rates in the robot-assisted subgroup, this observation might reflect the learning curves of the involved robotic surgeons.
