The role of transarterial embolization in the management of hematuria secondary to congenital renal arteriovenous malformations.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transarterial embolization (TAE) in the management of hematuria secondary to congenital renal arteriovenous malformations (AVM). ⋯ For unexplained massive hematuria, congenital renal AVM needs to be considered as a differential diagnosis. Selective renal angiography and embolization should be recommended as the first choice to treat massive hematuria secondary to congenital renal AVM.

Multicenter StudyExternal validation of the updated nomogram predicting lymph node invasion in patients with prostate cancer undergoing extended pelvic lymph node dissection.
The aim of our study was to determine the validity of the updated nomogram [Briganti et al.: Eur Urol 2012;61:480-487] as a prediction tool for pelvic lymph node invasion (LNI) in the current era by using a large multicentric population of men who underwent extended pelvic lymph node dissection (ePLND) at the time of radical prostatectomy (RP) at tertiary referral centers. ⋯ The updated nomogram predicting LNI in patients with PCa undergoing ePLND has been externally validated, demonstrating excellent accuracy and calibration characteristics and a general applicability for predicting the presence of LNI.

Comparative StudyComparison of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, shock wave lithotripsy, and retrograde intrarenal surgery for lower pole renal calculi 10-20 mm.
To compare the results of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), shock wave lithotripsy (SWL), and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for 1- to 2-cm lower pole kidney stones. ⋯ PCNL seems to be the most successful but most invasive method. However, with relatively low complication rates, SWL and RIRS are other techniques to keep in mind. To determine the first-line treatment, prospective randomized studies with larger series are needed.

The clinical significance of PCDH10 promoter methylation in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
To investigate the clinical significance of PCDH10 (protocadherin 10) promoter methylation in patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). ⋯ PCDH10 methylation is closely associated with malignancy of bladder TCC and may be used as an independent predictor for patients with bladder TCC.

Perioperative complications after radical prostatectomy: open versus robot-assisted laparoscopic approach.
The best technique of radical prostatectomy - open versus robot-assisted approach - is controversially discussed. In this study, we compared the complication rates of open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy during the introduction and subsequent routine use of a da Vinci® robotic device while open surgery remained the standard approach. ⋯ Open and robot-assisted radical prostatectomy had comparable complication rates. With better patient- and tumor-related parameters as well as decreasing transfusion rates in the robot-assisted subgroup, this observation might reflect the learning curves of the involved robotic surgeons.
