Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Effect of neridronate in osteopenic patients after heart, liver or lung transplant: a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
Transplantation (Tx) is an effective therapeutic option in patients with end-stage organ failure and osteoporosis and related fractures are a recognized complication in these patients. Aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of neridronate in patients with reduced bone mass after Tx of the heart, liver or lung. ⋯ This is the first RCT that demonstrates the efficacy of neridronate in increasing bone density and reducing bone turnover in organ Tx recipients with significant skeletal morbidity.

Effects on cognitive function of propofol medium and long chain lipid emulsion in patients with hepatic encephalopathy.
Our study aimed to investigate the effects of propofol medium and long chain lipid emulsion on cognitive function of the patients with hepatic encephalopathy undergoing hemofiltration treatment. ⋯ Based on our results we found that propofol medium-long chain lipid emulsion can significantly improve the curative effect of hemofiltration on patients with hepatic encephalopathy, and can also improve their cognitive function. We recommend the use of this propofol emulsion when considering hemofiltration treatment in this group of patients.

Delphinol® standardized maqui berry extract reduces postprandial blood glucose increase in individuals with impaired glucose regulation by novel mechanism of sodium glucose cotransporter inhibition.
The impetus of our study was to investigate the effects of a nutritional supplement Delphinol®, an extract of maqui berries (Aristotelia chilensis) standardised to ≥25% delphinidins and ≥35% total anthocyanins, on postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels and identify the physiologic mechanism involved. ⋯ Our results suggest a potential use of Delphinol® for naturally controlling post-prandial blood glucose owed to inhibition of sodium glucose co-transporter in small intestine.
