Impact of coronary artery disease on outcome after transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair with the MitraClip system.
The clinical impact of coronary artery disease (CAD) on the prognosis of patients undergoing MitraClip implantation is still unclear. ⋯ CAD did not show a relevant impact on mid-term prognosis per se, but seemed to identify a more complex and diseased cohort of patients with worse clinical and functional status.

Predictors of survival in patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR): a multicenter retrospective study.
The aim of this study was to evaluate cardiac rehabilitation (CR)-derived predictors of outcome in patients discharged from rehabilitation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). ⋯ Patients attending residential CR after TAVR are very old with significant comorbidity. The overall 3-year mortality rate after CR discharge is high. Our findings suggest the need for individually tailored follow-up care in patients discharged from CR after TAVR to address their residual exercise capacity, comorbidities, and renal function impairment.

Differences between sexes concerning COVID-19-related pneumonia.
Pneumonia is both the most common type of lower respiratory tract infection and a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 raised an extremely serious concern, because its most frequent clinical presentation was pneumonia. Features such as sex play an active role in the incidence and outcomes of pneumonia. This study aimed to evaluate differences between sexes concerning COVID-19-related pneumonia. ⋯ Males had significantly higher mortality and longer ICU stay than females. More comorbidities in males than in females could explain the difference in mortality rates. The protective role of genetic factors can partially explain the better outcomes observed in female patients with COVID-19.

The effect of frailty on in-hospital and medium-term mortality of patients with COronaVIrus Disease-19: the FRACOVID study.
Older people hospitalized for COVID-19 are at highest risk of death. Frailty Assessment can detect heterogeneity in risk among people of the same chronological age. We investigated the association between frailty and in-hospital and medium-term mortality in middle-aged and older adults with COVID-19 during the first two pandemic waves. ⋯ Frailty, assessed with the FI or CFS, predicts in-hospital and medium-term mortality and may help estimate vulnerability in middle-aged and older COVID-19 patients.

Implantation of one, two or multiple MitraClips for transcatheter mitral valve repair: insights from a 1824-patient multicenter study.
Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) with MitraClip™ (Abbott Laboratories; Abbott Park, IL, USA) is an established treatment for mitral regurgitation (MR). More than one MitraClip™ may be implanted if a single one does not reduce MR adequately. We aimed to appraise the outlook of patients undergoing implantation of one, two or multiple MitraClip™ for TMVR. ⋯ Implantation of one or two MitraClip™ is associated with favorable clinical outcomes. Conversely, bail-out implantation of three or more MitraClip™ may portend a worse long-term prognosis.
