ReviewHandwashing in averting infectious diseases: Relevance to COVID-19.
After officially declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), drastic measures to restrict human movements to contain the COVID-19 infection are employed by most of the countries. Maintaining high personal hygiene by frequent handwashing and be vigilant of clinical signs are widely recommended to reduce the disease burden. ⋯ Here, in this brief article, based on available clinical information, the author discusses why handwashing could be protective of COVID-19 infections. Although a detailed and in-depth discussion of various preventive and protective measures is beyond the scope of this article, this review will focus on the utility of frequent handwashing in minimizing the risk of spreading COVID-19 infection.

ReviewThe Role of Midodrine for Hypotension Outside of the Intensive Care Unit.
Midodrine is an oral, peripherally acting alpha-adrenergic agonist. After gaining Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 1996 for orthostatic hypotension, its use has evolved to target vasoplegic conditions such as intradialytic hypotension in the end-stage renal disease population, refractory ascites in cirrhotic patients to support diuresis, and in hepatorenal syndrome. Upon oral ingestion, the drug undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis to an active metabolite, desglymidodrine. ⋯ The vasoplegic profile of sepsis would be a potential target for midodrine therapy. While its use to mediate recovery from septic shock has been suggested, there is a paucity of clinical data supporting its use. Such therapy may be uniquely appropriate in septic patients who are not candidates for intensive care unit (ICU) level of care.

ReviewThe effects of antidepressant medications on mothers and babies.
Depression during pregnancy may be undertreated for a variety of reasons, one of which is concern regarding the safety of antidepressant medication. Dr. ⋯ The clinical group has published systematic reviews and meta-analyses on various potential outcomes following antidepressant exposure (i.e., congenital anomalies, spontaneous abortion, delivery outcomes, immediate neonatal outcomes and persistent pulmonary hypertension) in addition to outcomes associated with maternal depression. Some of the results of this program of research are presented together with a case example to start your thinking on the issues.

ReviewSurviving morning sickness successfully: from patient's perception to rational management.
Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) affects up to 85% of pregnant women, with varying degrees of severity. The most severe form of NVP, known as hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), affects up to 2% of pregnancies. ⋯ The symptoms and impact of NVP and HG can vary greatly among women, therefore treatment must be tailored to the individual. Updated Motherisk guidelines are presented.

ReviewThe management of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum--a 2013 update.
Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) affects up to 85% of all pregnancies, yet many physicians are uncertain as to how to best treat their patients in the presence of controversial data on fetal risks. This review provides an update on the management of NVP, including pharmacological and non pharmacological approaches Due to a high rate of recurrent symptoms, it is important for women to receive early treatment to reduce the severity of symptoms with the aim of preventing hospitalization and improving quality of life.
