Tapering Opioid Prescription Program for High-Risk Trauma Patients: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.
Chronic opioid use has been documented in up to 20% of patients with traumatic injuries. Hence, we developed the Tapering Opioids Prescription Program for high-risk Trauma (TOPP-Trauma) patients. ⋯ Some challenges need to be addressed before testing TOPP-Trauma. These include creating strategies to decrease attrition, offering the program throughout the care continuum to higher risk patients, and evaluating the impacts of reduced opioid use.

Effects of Neurofeedback on Fibromyalgia: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic widespread pain condition that is associated with sleep disturbances and cognitive impairments. Neurofeedback has been demonstrated to improve pain, sleep quality, and fatigue. However, few studies have examined the effect of neurofeedback for patients with fibromyalgia. ⋯ An 8-week neurofeedback training regimen of sensorimotor rhythm and alpha brain waves significantly improved pain severity and interference, fibromyalgia symptom severity, sleep latency, and sustained attention in patients with fibromyalgia.

The Feasibility and Efficacy of Self-help Relaxation Exercise in Symptom Distress in Patients With Adult Acute Leukemia: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.
To examine the feasibility and efficacy of self-help relaxation exercises in alleviating symptom distress in adult patients with acute leukemia (AL). ⋯ Self-help relaxation exercises were feasible for the AL patients and significantly reduced their pain symptoms. Minor revision of the protocol for future definitive trials is needed.

The Effect of Cold Therapy Applied to the Incision Area After Abdominal Surgery on Postoperative Pain and Analgesic Use.
Cold therapy is one of the most common nonpharmacologic pain treatments. Despite the existence of many studies about cold therapy, few have examined the effects of cold therapy after abdominal surgery. ⋯ Both groups had decreased pain levels, and the decrease in the experimental group was greater than in the control group but cold therapy had no statistically significant effect on analgesics use.

Effect of Persian acupressure (Ghamz) on Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Single-Blinded Parallel Clinical Trial.
Many patients choose complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to treat various conditions. Among osteoarthritis patients, acupressure is a popular CAM treatment. In Iran, Ghamz (a Persian acupressure technique) uses for musculoskeletal ailments like knee pain. ⋯ This study supports evidence that Ghamz therapy provides an effective option for short-term knee pain relief in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Additional studies are recommended to confirm these findings.
