To evaluate the role of pretreatment with gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues (GnRHa) prior to surgery for women with uterine fibroids. ⋯ The use of GnRHa for three to four months prior to fibroid surgery reduces both uterine volume and fibroid size. They are beneficial in the correction of pre-operative iron deficiency anaemia, if present, and reduce intra-operative blood loss. If uterine size is such that a midline incision is planned, this can be avoided in many women with the use of GnRHa. For women undergoing hysterectomy, a vaginal procedure is more likely following the use of these agents.

To compare maternal and paternal psychological responses following birth of a healthy baby; and to explore predictors of parental psychological distress. ⋯ Childbirth does not seem to trigger long term psychological distress in most parents. Clinically important psychological distress occurred more frequently in mothers than in fathers. Acute maternal psychological distress was predicted by being a single parent, being multiparous, and having a previous traumatic birth.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
Randomised controlled trial of reflexology for menopausal symptoms.
Clinical experience suggests that reflexology may have beneficial effects on the symptoms occurring in menopausal women, particularly psychological symptoms. This study aims to examine that effect rigorously. ⋯ Foot reflexology was not shown to be more effective than non-specific foot massage in the treatment of psychological symptoms occurring during the menopause.

To determine if it is proper to give a woman of higher parity who needs at short notice a caesarean section the option of a tubal ligation. ⋯ We found no evidence that the need to take an urgent decision resulted in more regret following tubal ligation. Women were far more likely to regret declining a tubal ligation (40%) than regret accepting one (2.5%). In this setting, some women are more likely to die of the next pregnancy than to regret an emergency tubal ligation.
